Beautiful quilt............I think I would pick one or several colors from the roosters and do just vertical straight stitching on the black border.
Good Luck,

Dorrie

Love it! Roosters are kind of a favorite of mine! Used that chicken wire fabric, too and its very effective. Great work!

Yes, I've seen the Mekenna Ryan patterns, if fact the blue background and the wine background fabrics are from her line. Maybe even a few more too. I was thinking about getting her four rooster patterns and making a wall hanging. I'm so hooked on thread painting, gotta find something else to do. It is so much fun, not nearly as intimadating as doing free motion on big open spaces.

davis2se 05-17-2010 03:24 PM

I have SO much to learn. What is thread painting? I've never heard of that before.

And, your quilt is just beautiful!!!

weezie 05-17-2010 03:28 PM

It's a wonderful quilt top! Sorry, no quilting ideas from me ... I'm seriously challenged when it comes to actual quilting.

such a sew and sew 05-17-2010 03:40 PM

Thread painting is just using alot of thread to enhance your picture. Instead of satin stitching or blanket stiching I tried to kinda add enough thread to make a feathery look. I did it with rayon thread that also adds alittle shine. I'm not sure that's a proper definition but that's how it was explained to me.

I did some looking on the Internet and found the designer. You can still get her patterns. Her phone # is 903-868-3105 She will be happy to send them to you. She said she's not doing shows anymore, just still designing.

LaurieE 05-18-2010 10:05 AM

Thank you so much. I have been searching the internet and could not find her webpage.

Shirley really does make beautiful patterns. I've used those chickens on a set of 8 placemats. I have a couple of her other designs. You should see some of her quilts. She has/had one hanging on a wall in her living area. The designs on it were connected to her family history. Absolutely stunning. She lives at the end of the street that is behind our house.
