Here is a couple of photos of the quilts that I have done or in the process of doing. Just remember that these are quilts #2 and #3 that I have ever done in my life.
This quilt top is about half way done and will have a triple border when It is ready to quilt in the next couple of weeks This is the one I did for my SIL and was the first one to come out of my newly remodeled shop |

Here are the machines that I am using to do them with. The first one is my Universal model 15 from the late forties and that is the one that I used for the purple quilt.

Holy Cow! You have talent!!!

That is awesome!! I always believe that it's not necessarily the machine that makes beautiful quilts........it's the hands who operate the machines.
I don't own a fancy machine. I have only 2 machines, both bought for less than $200 (one was from Costco, the other from WalMart). I have put together some eight queen-size quilts on both of them; and nobody would've known that I didn't use a fancy-schmancy machine on any of them. I envy that you have your older machines. I wish I had my grandmother's machine. She had sewn on a treadle. |

Here is my 1963 Kenmore that is pretty rare for the fact the the model was only produced 2 years and the color is a true pearl (Pearl Iris is the correct name). This is the one I am using for my wife's quilt that is in the second photo.

Those look like you have been quilting for awhile!!! You have a good eye for color and color combinations! My singer is a 1950's and looks very similar to yours tho not the gold on the front part. I do all of my work on it. These Singers are the best unless someone wants all the fancy stitches.
Thanks for posting your pictures! I enjoyed them! |
Great quilts! Very nice machines too. I read an article in a quilt mag once about a woman who only pieces and quilts with treadles.
|
Great quilts!

I love your quilts an i really like your sewing table iI happ to have a golden oldie out in storage because i don't have big enough sewing room to put all my machines in yet.but on of these days if I have to build it myself I will.Needs to be about three times the size it is now.Just because
of the machines them selves.I have five machines all together Brother inoves is ,an a Brother that i bought at walmart,a singer that was my Dear Step moms,an then a Nolting quilting machine that I got 4 1/2years ago. When my dear hubby got his settlement from disabilty. So now I sew an take care of him.An when i'm down an out of comossion he takes care of me. |
I had one of them before I got my first Brother an it was the I used to sew my hubbies winter caot twenty years ago an that machine was a
real work horse for it sewed that coat it was denium an sheepskin lining an that thing was so heavy an thick he didn't have to wear any thing else but a t-shirt under it an he'd stay warm. an thats is in thirty below weather. He was a carpenter then an drove for amish. |
Thank you for the comments, the Kenmore is the only e-machine I own everything else is all treadle operated. I have a wall unit in my shop that I keep my machines that I have earmarked for use and I just grab what ever one I feel like using at the time.
The Universal is the go to machine for me and if I want fancy stitches I just get my attachments out for it and I am ready to go for it! I really love my model 27 which is a VS machine (vibrating shuttle) it so soothing to listen to it while you sew, it sounds like a fine tuned Model A Ford!! But the only catch is the you cant back tack on it and the bobbins do not hold a lot of thread but I still love the little guy! All of my Christmas presents this year will sewn on my 1921 Singer 66 Red Eye. Billy |
Billy, I totally love your quilts!! Both so vibrant looking!!! And your machines are beautiful too!! :D :D
|
2 of them are nice lovely colors for me the second is no 1
|
Billy,i just love your quilts and your machines i have a kenmore that looks something like that but mine is a gold color my DS gave it to me after buying a house the elderly lady that use to live there left it in it's sewing table i don't have the book to it but it runs as smooth as silk
|
Beautiful quilts. You did a great job on both.
|
Awesome job Billy! You have alot of talent and I love your machines. They are beautiful!!
|
I love the purple one and how the squares aren't perfect squares. It gives it a cool "wonky" effect
|
Your quilts look beautiful. Nice sewing machines!!!
|
I love your quilts Billy.... and the machines that made them.. excellent work!!!
|
I love the colors of the first quilt and a very interesting pattern. Your second quilt is just great too. I like that pattern as well. Excellent piecing.

I am starting another quilt for my nephew and I am starching the snot out of the material and oh it cuts so easily, and the blocks are matching perfectly. You can take a 4" square and stand it on end and it wont lay over just like she told me and it makes life a lot easier when piecing the blocks. But I am just now getting into the quilting part of it and I love it!! One day I might get the hang of it but for now I am on one heck of a learning curve. Billy |
Great job! Looks like you have been quilting a long time.
|
Great looking quilts along with great looking machines. I have 2 old Singers from the 30's, along with a couple of others. One of these days, I'll get the cabinets refinished along with the machines.
|
Oh my. Your quilts are great. And look at your sewing machines..... SEW WAY COOL :D
|
You want to know something really funny about those two machines.......I have less than $50 in both of them!
The universal I bought with a solid maple cabinet for $20 and the Kenmore was $25 in a portable case. The Kenmore is in the Universals maple cabinet that I cut the opening out a little for. Billy |
Wow, Billy -- you're doing great!!!! And you said you were a beginner??
And I love both of those machines! :D |
Great job on #'s 2-3. Can't wait to see more.
I love that Pearl finish. Love it. How's she sew? Who manufactured her for Kenmore? Of course, I can look this up for myself. Think I will. I'm fascinated. My De Luxe Rotary is like a black abyss. Bad for the eyes. It's a sexy beast though. Almost worth filling the house with Klieg lights or moving into a lighthouse with a Fresnel lens to sew by. Terribly sexy. |
Beautiful work!!!
|
I love that Pearl finish. Love it. How's she sew? Who manufactured her for Kenmore? The machine was manufactured in Japan by Maruzen Jaguar and they badged them for Sears. Not long after this machine was produced they changed their company name to just Jaguar and badged machines for White along with Kenmore. Billy |
Thank you! Lightning quick. I didn't get a chance to look her up.
|
now that is a true beauty, hehe, I have one just like it! a Singer 15, love it!
|
Love the pearl machine!
|
Well, you sure do good work for someone who has made only three quilts. They both look great.
In the second pic----the quilt with the orange/brown colors--- what is the pattern called? ranger |
Very nice quilts! Did you do the quilting on your home machine or did you do it on a long arm?
|
Your quilts are wonderful and I love seeing the older machines. Are you sure you're a 'newbie'? I have a 15-91 in a cabinet that looks similar as it has the tension in the back. It has a perfect straight stitch. Will have to start looking for an older Kenmore.
