Crayon Quilts for Sisters
9 Attachment(s)
I don't know if any of you remember the problems I was having getting crayons to stay in the fabric for quilts that I planned to make for each of my sisters for surprise gifts at our family reunion. (Changed my mind about doing all Sunbonnet Sues, and made 5 different quilts)
http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...g-t150743.html Anyway, I have had some success, and here are the results, if you care to look at the finished quilts. They are just "lap" quilts, each measure 72" x 54", they are embellished with hand-embroidery, (is it a "cheater" panel if you hand-make your own panels?) and they are hand quilted. (I don't know how to machine quilt) sewnsewer2 made the beautiful lables for each quilt, and they are prettier than the quilts. Anyway, I hope my sisters like them. |
I think they are beautiful. No cheating there, your work is fabulous. I'm sure your sisters will love them.

Like anything, crayon has to cure. The quilt turned out so pretty.
Absolutely beautiful and what a thoughtful idea.
Those are amazing!!!
How could they NOT love the quilts! Each one is absolutely beautiful. What a great memorial.
Beautiful quilts ... and quilting! love the originality and creativity of each one!
Your sisters will surely love these lovely quilts. You do beautiful hand quilting, by the way. Thanks for sharing and have fun at your reunion.
If you use a white crayon under the color it sets the crayon into the fabric.
What a wonderful idea for gifts for your sisters. They are beautiful and they will be loved.
Beautifully, wonderful gifts. Love your labels also. Your sisters will be so thrilled!
Beautiful!!
I feel sure they all love the quilts (you sure they aren't fighting over them???) What cheating? It's all your own clever work! |
No it isn't a cheater panel if you make your own. It is very creative, a lot of us can't draw or do a lot of things. Be proud of them. The sisters will love them.
They are beautiful! Your sisters are going to love them. Very special gifts

you did a wonderful job. I love them. I'm sure your sis's will too. My mom's real given name is goldie also. she wasn't born until 1937, It must of been a popular name "back in the day" (that's what my grandkids say) ;-) Thanks for sharing.
I've pondered doing a crayon quilt, but haven't had the courage to "fuss" with it. Kudos to you for creating such original panels and quilts. I'm sure each of your sisters will cherish such a wonderful one-of-a-kind gift. Thanks for sharing.

Your quilts are pretty. Sure they will love them. No you are not cheating by making your own. I have made several wall hangings and table cloth quilts using crayola and coloring pencil. Keep up the good work.

Wow. All hand quilted. It must have taken you some time. They are lovely. Lucky, lucky sisters and lucky you having five. I'd love to have even one.

I too had trouble with a recent crayon wall hanging and solved the problem by painting the crayon portions with textile medium....worked great! Love the quilts.

Great hint! Thanks
I was told to heat set the crayons with wax paper. Put wax paper over the "drawing" and then put a dry iron over the wax paper.
A clever idea and cute quilts. They'll love them.
Very nice......love the quilts and labels.....your sisters should love them.
Great job, thanks for sharing.
Lovely, so very lovely indeed. Thanks for sharing.
very nice!!!!
Beautiful gifts and thoughtful, caring way to express your love for them. They are just lovely and you are very talented.
All lovely quilts! My favorite is the one with the flower faces. Won't your sisters be in awe of what you have made them!?!? Wish I could see their faces when these come into view. And I wish quilters would stop saying the quilt is "only a lap quilt". It still takes planning and work to put one together .... maybe not as much time but still a lot of time and a bunch of work.
How could they not love them!
