Crazy Eights
2 Attachment(s)
I have not posted anything except comments for some time so here is a pic of what I am working on now. The pattern is called Crazy Eights. I do not know where I got it but it was in a small clear envelope. I am guessing someone got it at a quilt shop and how it ended up with me...who knows. anyhow, it requires 8 FQ's. I decided after I got it all sandwiched, that I would just practice my FMQ on it, even if it wasn't perfect. I thought it would fit the theme to just quilt 8's in the body of the quilt in each square so that is what I did. Of course, I had to make 'traveling lines' or whatever they are called, too. Then I decided to try writing (cursive) around the inner border. Then I quilted the outer border and put 8's on it. Now I am adding the binding. I wanted to tell you that I learned one lesson. If you do decide to add a quilted design to the outer border, please remember, (I did not even think of it at the time!) to leave at least 1/2 inch for the trimming and the binding to be sewn on. I will post a finished picture when binding is done. But however it turns out, it will still be a warm quilt.

A great pattern. Looks like a great way to use up your scraps.

I made this pattern on the day I bought my first featherweight at the store I bought it at. The shop lady cut it out for me with fat quarters and I used my FW to put these together. I had a very nice day at this shop and the girl that helped me was super. Sorry to say that shop has closed. Very nice memories made that day, I had just lost my Mother and appreiciated the time that was spent with me with a stranger. 5 years ago already.

Think I'm going to have to find this pattern... good job .. like the idea of writing around the border.. and thanks for the tip on the outside border... I am just about to do a design on my baby quilt and would have forgot about the allowance..

The pattern Crazy 8s is by Bits 'n Pieces. If you can't find it at your LQS, it's available on-line. I've made several of these quilts and they work up quickly. |

Just got my frames and machine to do free motion quilting...any pointers. Also, could you give me the sizes of the eight squares for the Crazy Eight Quilt. It is pretty and looks fairly easy for a beginner. You did great. Wish me luck.
