I finally finished the crazy patch jacket I had intended to give to DGD for Christmas -- only 2+ months late -- but she loved it.

Beautiful granddaughter and beautiful jacket! Like your quilt ladder too.

Maggiesmom 03-16-2010 02:20 PM

Lovely jacket for a lovely little girl. She will remember her "Coat of Many Colors".

brendadawg 03-16-2010 02:50 PM

McQuilter, that's exactly what we called it -- her coat of many colors. Gave us a good opportunity to talk about the story of Joseph.

Y'all are all so kind -- I'm kinda prejudiced, but I think she's a cutie also.

paintedquilt 03-16-2010 02:59 PM

Both are beauties

dkabasketlady 03-16-2010 03:05 PM

I'm sure DGD thought her jacket was well worth the wait!

That's just what I thought of as well... I need to make one of these for my GD. Did you have a pattern?

By the way, your little model is just adorable!

ditto! She's adorable modeling that adorable "coat of many colors." You did great! Love the stone fireplace! Reminds me of my parents' cabin they collected all the rocks for theirs and had it built. Sadly they built too close to the river and it got carried downstream -- all but the chimney and fireplace :-( but it brings back fond memories~! Can't get over how cute that crazy patch jacket is!! :-D :-D

brendadawg 03-16-2010 06:52 PM

Thanks for the compliments.

lots2do, my house was built in 1978, and that room is so very special. My father-in-law designed the paneling, the stone on the fireplace was all picked up by hand from land in North Carolina, except for the center stone which we got from a friend's farm nearby in Georgia. We remodeled the house a few years ago but kept this room exactly the same. I love the wood.

My darling hubby built the quilt ladder for me.

2wheelwoman 03-16-2010 08:01 PM

What a cutie! Both the jacket and the model are cute as the dickens.

littlehud 03-16-2010 08:33 PM

I think that is beautiful and the one wearing is is precious. I made a braided jacket of may colors for myself several years ago and still get complements on it. Love it nice and warm

Beautiful and bet she will love wearing it.

Marcia 03-18-2010 08:21 AM

Brenda---I LOVE the jacket. Your granddaughter is precious. How old is she?

AND I love this room in your house-and the neat stories that make it so special. The quilt ladder is fabulous. I want to just sit in the rocker by the fire and quilt!!!!!!

brendadawg 03-18-2010 08:53 AM

DGD is 8.......going on 16 (LOL). As for the fireplace -- it's no longer a working fireplace. When we remodeled the house, we sealed it, added some height to the house and built a screen porch around where the chimney was located. So the beautiful rock chimney is now the focal point of my porch; and the original old log mantel is on the outside. The story on the log mantel is that it was from a log cabin that dated back to the Civil War. You'll just have to come my way and see it sometime!

I'd like to actually make some type of "wooden quilt" to put on the porch.

wraez 03-18-2010 02:43 PM

She's got that perfect 'over the shoulder' model pose! What a sweetheart.

Great jacket too. It's only 2 1/2 months late? Wow, I've got some quilts that are late by a couple of years.

warm quilt hugs, sue in CA

joeyoz 03-18-2010 02:46 PM

earthwalker 03-20-2010 12:42 AM

Thanks for sharing such beautiful photographs and the stories behind your lovely home. Your grand daughter is a real sweetie and the jacket is fabulous (is 46 too old to wear one????).

Marian E 03-20-2010 03:02 AM

What a sweet model She looks great in her beautiful jacket.

brendadawg 03-20-2010 06:03 AM

No, 46 is not too old! I made the original one for me -- and I'm 64! Remember, we're only as old as we feel. Problem is, some days I feel 90! (LOL)
