Such beautiful memories.

What an incredibly touching story. It is a beautiful work of art and speaks volumes of the relationship you shared and of her special love for you. How wonderful that during her illness she gave your this most wonderful piece of herself to serve as a lifelong reminder of your very special "memory days" together.

wolflady 07-26-2011 03:24 AM

What a dear friend. You can look at that quilt and always remember her love.

Her cancer had mostly confined her to bed, but she worked on this over the course of a year while lying on her back. Can you imagine? . She fussed because it wasn't up to her previous standards and in fact had her husband mail it for my birthday and then had me return it so she could make some corrections. A treasure to be sure. I miss her.

I AM TRUELY SORRY FOR THE SICKNESS OF YOUR FRIEND BUT WHAT A GREAT QUILT SHE MADE FOR YOU.MY MIL HAS TERMINALLY OVARIAN CANCER SHE HAS ONLY 6 MONTHS IF OUR GOD DOES NOT DO A MIRACLE ON HER.SHE HAS STARTED ME A QUILT TOP SOME TIME AGO.I DON'T KNOW IS SHE WILL GET TO FINISH IT BUT I WILL TREASURE IT FOR THE REST OF MY TIME HERE ON EARTH JUST THE SAME. I LOVE HER VERY MUCH.WE HAVE NEVER HAD ONE SPAT IN THE 30 YEARS I HAVE BEEN HER DIL,THAT MEANS A LOT TO ME.

Your friend did a stunning job on the crazy quilt and just think she did most of it while in bed! I'm sure you cherish it and think of her often when you use it.

Yes, she included a 2 page letter pointing out every detail in case I might miss one. Bottom lower right is for my son - who has always marched to the beat of a different drummer :)

How beautiful and how wonderful that your friend wanted to do something for you as her final act of sisterly love. I can only imagine how much you must miss her. I treasure for sure. Jan

That was a remarkable woman, and it's wonderful you were able to share a friendship with her. We all hurt for your loss. What a gorgeous quilt!

georgiat 07-26-2011 09:32 AM

It's nice that as quilters we treasure to work of others too. Ihave 2 quilts friends have made for me hanging at work so I can enjoy them everyday! I'm so glad for the friendship you shared with the dear friend. You have to love to be able to be hurt or miss someone. What a dreary live we would have without the opportunity.

Your friendship must have meant so much to her!

Caro 07-26-2011 12:13 PM

Brings tears to my heart...what a lovely gesture for a lovely friendship!

You are indeed blessed.

The fabrics are so pretty...did she use all silky fabrics or did she use cottons?

megs0863 07-26-2011 01:11 PM

An absolutely gorgeous keepsake from an angel who would do this for you.

bevannthomas 07-26-2011 01:53 PM

Treasure this forever... That's a really nice story.

desertrose 07-26-2011 02:02 PM

Such a beautiful memory of a dear friend. No matter how she was feeling your 50th birthday was more important to her than her own discomfort. I have lost two extremely close girl friends to cancer and I know the pain that accompanies this type of loss. You were Blessed to have her in your life and you have a beautiful memorial of her love for you. I'm happy you have reached the point that you are going to display it and give her a prominent part of your life. She loved you so much and left you her gift so it would comfort you. {{{HUGS}}}
