Olivia's Grammy 01-24-2010 02:11 PM

I love crazy quilting. My students and I did blocks then traded. I made a throw with mine.
Your work is beautiful.

amma 01-24-2010 02:27 PM

Quilter7x 01-24-2010 02:31 PM

I took a class on it back in the fall. I could not believe how many things you do with various things like beads, silk ribbon and embroidery floss. It is amazing all the designs you can make with embroidery stitches. I haven't finished mine yet, but the the teacher was excellent.

MadQuilter 01-24-2010 02:33 PM

I'm crazy and I quilt, does that count? lol

Barb_MO 01-24-2010 02:49 PM

Your work is beautiful! I've made a lap quilt and a few Christmas stockings. I started making a sweatshirt jacket... haven't finished it.
I love to do crazy quilting, but seems to always be something else taking plans in my head that will go faster.

JCL in FL 01-24-2010 03:04 PM

I have never done that but I'd love to. I'm not sure where to start. Or what to start with. Maybe the LQS will offer some class, that would be fun. I have mys sister saving men's ties for me that she gets in to their church thrift shop. They can't use all that they receive and I'm going to make a quilt of some kind with them. Your work is so nice. I love the stocking. Did you just make up the pattern?

MamaBear61 01-24-2010 03:12 PM

Love to crazy quilt. I took a class many years ago that made a Christmas tree skirt and have used this method on several small projects since. I goes fairly quickly once you get the hang of it

littlehud 01-24-2010 03:31 PM

I haven't done it but I love the look. You inspire me. Great projects.

quazyquilter 01-24-2010 03:34 PM

My very first quilt was a crazy quilt made of velvet scraps when I was 11 years old and I still make crazy patch things.

paintedquilt 01-24-2010 03:51 PM

Simply gorgeous

gailmitchell 01-24-2010 03:58 PM

I'm a CQer. I'm just piecing 3 Christmas socks now and I'll be taking these with me when we go south for the winter. I find these are big projects and I'm anxious to get them done, and then I'd like to do some small projects. I love the ones you have displayed.

rootyr 01-24-2010 04:19 PM

Lovely work. I have never done it but one day hope to try.

charismah 01-24-2010 04:21 PM

These are beautiful peices! I really need to try this one day.

Quilt Mom 01-24-2010 04:23 PM

I am collecting fabrics for two crazy quilts for my daughters. But so far, I have not tried the technique.

I love your work!

dakotamaid 01-24-2010 04:48 PM

I have done some but no embroidery, just the crazy patches!

Marian E 01-25-2010 04:33 AM

You seem to gather a lot of things in crazy quilting. I love the stack together plastic boxes that are clear. easy to carry and see what you want to start with. I have only been crazy quilting for about 4 years. We have a club within our guild. It consists of about 20 girls. We meet once a month at someones house. We learn from each other. The hearts were taught by one of our members and I liked to so much I made 32 of them for Christmas Presents. Not a lot of expense just my time in front of the TV each evening.
The stocking was another pattern we sheared. Some made them white and some made them wool and some from drapery scraps. All were gorgeous. They will be displayed at our Quilt show on June 5 in Boiling Springs Pa. at the school.

mysacrifice 01-25-2010 07:16 AM

I don't do it, but yours are simply lovely!!!

beckyw 01-25-2010 07:18 AM

I like crazy quilting also. Yours are very pretty.

shaverg 01-25-2010 07:45 AM

I have never tried, but you crazy quilts are lovely.

Sharon - NC 01-25-2010 08:08 AM

I haven't, but I hope to some day, especially after seeing yours! So beautiful and unique and creative!

k3n 01-25-2010 09:21 AM

These are beautiful - I love the heart. Crazy is one of my evening handwork projects too - I've only done two blocks so far and have no idea what it will end up as but I love all the ribbons, embroidery and little doodads you can include! Plus, it widens out the shopping obsession from fabric and tools! I scrounged around the house for stuff as well - buttons, beads from a broken bracelet of my daughter's, odd earings, one of DH's silk ties (I asked him first!). I also am using some non cottons, my little girl's outgrown velvet dress, some organza type stuff etc. Anything like that, I iron on to interfacing to stabilise it.

Do you piece your blocks by hand or machine? I did a couple a while ago which are 9" squares hand pieced onto a muslin foundation but found them too big to work on comfortably so they are now pinned up in my sewing room - maybe I'll make them into cushions or something. My new project is with 6" squares and I machine pieced them, no foundation. It's fun isn't it? I must pick mine up again, haven't done any since Christmas becasue I'm trying to finish a hand quilting project. Maybe I'll do some this evening! :-D

You do a wonderful job---your embroidery work is stunning!

mpspeedy 01-25-2010 10:49 AM

Your work is lovely.
I love to crazy quilt. It is a good way to use up fabrics that are not suitable for most bed quilts that you just couldn't resist buying. I will admit that I only do the embroidery with my machine. It also gives me an excuse to buy those premade lacey things that look so good on a crazy quilt.

Marian E 01-25-2010 02:39 PM

I piece my blocks by machine. I love to use lace and buttons and stitching. We have a place that sells lots of trim for sometimes .50 a yard. Love that place.

kaykuilts 01-25-2010 04:30 PM

I'm a crazy quilter and I love to hand embroider so it's a great combination. My friends and I are making crazy quilted needlecases. If I knew how to put a picture into this computer and send it on I would show it to you. We call ourselves 'The Crazy Ladies."

QuiltMania 01-25-2010 04:41 PM

Haven't tried yet. Got some foundation squares. Just a question before I start -- do you do batting and quilting like a regular quilt when you crazy quilt?

Sandra Craig 01-25-2010 05:58 PM

I have tried crazy quilting on a foundation fabric but mine dosn't look neat like yours

Lockeb 01-25-2010 06:03 PM

Marian,
Your projects are wonderful!!! WOW...I've never done this but I so want to learn....FABULOUS!!!!
Bill

Marian E 01-25-2010 06:39 PM

No batting in a crazy quilt it is heavy enough. You can use a heaver fabric on the back.

Barb_MO 01-25-2010 10:26 PM

I always seem to work myself into a space where I can go on with the machine stitching and have to stitch two sides down by hand.

jabs317 01-26-2010 04:45 AM

Very Pretty

Joanofpa 01-26-2010 05:35 AM

aw, it reminds me of my grandma, she use to do crazy quilt. Has a charm all its own.

many craft person 01-26-2010 05:58 AM

Those are beautiful. I have some velvet from an aunt's stash, and you just gave me some ideas.

Nita 01-26-2010 06:51 AM

Your Christmas stocking is an absolute work of art. I'm not wild about an entire quilt done with crazy quilting ...... I don't know, just seems too "busy" for my liking. But I very much enjoy seeing small projects done in crazy quilting. Seeing what you've made tempts me to want to give it a try. However, a large part of what makes your stuff so very special is your embroidery. Marvelous!

Ramona Byrd 01-26-2010 08:40 AM

I adore Crazy Quilting. I made myself a lovely one from many
materials, and lined it with jade poly. I had seen one in an antique
shop, it wasn't in the best of conditions, and in the end, all I would
have had was a poorly kept lap quilt for $89. So did it myself with
yard sale material!!

My then 11 year old granddaughter loved it a lot and had me teach
her so she could make herself a CQ pillow. Now an RN, she says she
still has it and is proud of the comments she gets on it.

SewExtremeSeams 01-26-2010 08:49 AM

Wow, you are very inspirational to me. Thanks for sharing.

LINANN 01-26-2010 09:32 AM

Beautiful work!! I have fabric for foundation piecing that I want to crazy quilt. I am not sure if you do the fancy stitches before or after it is quilted or, is the fancy stitches the quilting part.
