We were talking on another thread about wedding dresses and I mentioned that mine was hand crocheted and weighed a ton. People wanted to see it so here it is. Mind you this was 25 years ago.

Beautiful

It's pretty - and so are you - definitely one of a kind

Who made it for you?

Well a GF made it for herself, and we were having dinner with them before my wedding. She asked if I had gone dress shopping yet. I hadn't. I laughed and said, "I don't need to, I will just wear your dress." She didn't laugh. She said sure you can wear my dress and she made me a new top totally diffrent from hers. I put in the sleeves and cuffs. She didn't sew.

I love the dress! Did she say how long it had taken originally to crochet?

It took her months. She was attached to it like it was an appendage. We worked together and she would sit in the lounge at lunch every day and work on it. I was in awww of it for a long time before her wedding. That is why I joked with her about wearing it. I didn't think for a second that she would let me wear it. But when she offered I didn't turn it down. I do however regret not at least ever trying on a single other wedding dress.

Absolutely gorgeous!!! You don't look like you've aged 25 years though.

How lovely to have taken the time and such effort to make her own wedding dress.

I'd forgotten just how heavy crochet actually is when there's an amount of it, but Mum was having a sort out of the attic recently and brought down a multi-coloured blanket she had made for my bed from odds and ends when I was a child... that weighed a ton too. :)

I never tried on any other dress either as I saw the one I wanted in the first shop... that said, it is in a similar style of the one I 'really' wanted... the patchwork one from Seven Brides For Seven Brothers lol!
