Here is my first "real" quilt. For my sister for her wedding in Sept. Now I just have to figure out how to quilt it! And that's my little buddy, Chevy, in the picture. Never misses a photo op!

Your quilt is great. Hard to believe it is your first!! This is a great example of what I consider "controlled scrappy". Really nice. Are you going to machine quilt, or hand?

Rebecca VLQ 04-26-2010 11:02 AM

Ohhhh, it turned out so LOVELY!!! Very manly and pretty at the same time!

cjomomma 04-26-2010 11:02 AM

This was made from approx 80 FQs (excluding borders). A local shop had a sale so I stocked up quickly. My sister choose the colors but hasn't seen any of the quilt yet. I'm machine quilting, just not entirely sure how yet. And, no, I don't have a long arm. But I'm up for the punishment. :?

Beautiful quilt, so nice and BIG. Love scrappy quilts. You did a really good job, the points look nice and sharp. The quilt inspector seems to like it too. Thanks for sharing.

HOW FUNNY!!! I totally just found a huge mistake in this quilt! I'm still learning! I won't point it out but I'm sure you experienced ones will see it. My sister will never know. HA HA HA (there's almost tears with those Ha's)

I can’t find any mistakes! People always say there are mistakes, then I can’t find them and I feel like I am searching for Where’s Waldo!! :) But I guess that is a good thing that I can’t find it that means other people won’t be able to either. I think your quilt turned out awesome! Did you paper piece it? I love the colors.

Cheers!
Rachel

Beautiful! Love the colors together. Great job! Have not a clue as to where any mistake may have been made.

hokieappmom 04-26-2010 12:57 PM

Well for your first real quilt, you sure did a fantastic job. I love your color combination and the pattern too. Your sister will be thrilled!

salmonsweet 04-26-2010 01:08 PM

Oh I like it! I'm in love with crossed canoes at the moment... and loving your color choices and layout.

Ya know what? I used to look hard for those mistakes when someone said something like this, but now, I do a quick scan, and if I don't find it, as far as I'm concerned there is no mistake. And I don't see one here. You did a great job, and maybe you just THINK there's one because you're cross-eyed now that it's done. So uncross your eyes, wipe the tears, and be proud! Ya done good!

oh that is lovely! And yes, which way are you going with the quilting? If it is by machine you may want to do something in an "all over the place" pattern.

sewnsewer2 04-26-2010 01:40 PM

Nice job and great colors!

Farmer Girl 04-26-2010 02:27 PM

Pam 04-26-2010 03:14 PM

If I find the mistake, do I get the dog! I love them both, flaws and all!!!

T-Bones mom 04-26-2010 03:25 PM

That is one beautiful quilt. I can't believe it is your first.
If you can piece that well on your on your first, I wouldn't worry about quilting it. It will be fabulous.

Sallyjane 04-26-2010 03:44 PM

Wow - that is beautiful, and your first - wow, wow, wow! You'll never see my first one posted here ; ) I told my friends it was a 20 footer (looked okay at 20 ft. away).

I am assuming that this is your first time quilting, since it is your first quilt. How about just doing a stitch in the ditch to make the canoes really pop out?

Butterfly Queen 04-26-2010 04:42 PM

Beautiful!

MamaBear61 04-26-2010 05:23 PM

What a pretty quilt, I don't see the mistake

Jim's Gem 04-26-2010 08:17 PM

Yes, I paper pieced. Took me days of reading the instructions to figure out what they meant and then several samples to figure out how to sew it. But I loved it! I think that's why my squares and points came together so nice. I will definitely be doing more PP!

k3n 04-27-2010 03:42 AM

That is absolutely beautiful! I love the colours you chose. And yes, I had to study it til I found the 'mistake'! LOL Took ages but I would call it a 'design decision'! I like it in there, it's a little quirk that gives your quilt character and if I were you, I'd insist it was done intentionally if anyone ever notices! Great job!

Well, I have made two small table runners using the nine patch. They were OK but things didn't line up so well. This is my first "blanket" style quilt. And my first time PP. Love it!! And everything lined up perfectly due to PP. I am machine quilting and think I have decided to stitch in the ditch around the squares but add an "echo" triangle in the middle of each triangle. Maybe:)

Isn't that funny! I've been putting this top together for the last month and never noticed what I was doing. I've been looking at other crossed canoes blocks on here and never saw it in mine. After I posted the picture and stared at my computer screen, I saw it. Then checked my pattern and decided I should take a reading class! I like it though, and trust me, no one around here will ever, ever notice.

bevannthomas 04-27-2010 05:45 AM

This is reall good. There have been some past issues on quilting. It's really not that hard.

wvdek 04-27-2010 06:24 AM

She will love it. Mistakes? I don't look for them just the love put into it.

Deb watkins 04-27-2010 06:43 AM
