this was a spur of the moment project. saw something similar in a magazine and you all know how i love scrappy quilts :D
i tied the corner blocks and used a crow foot stitch to quilt the rest.

I learned this stitch from my mother, who learned it from her mother, who learned it from her mother. . . . or so the story goes. Sara

Diamonds 11-21-2007 11:43 PM

I really, really like the crows feet.. Makes the quilt "pop"...

Rebecca Chambley 11-22-2007 01:29 AM

Very Nice, Love those crowfeet, Thats astitch I want to learn and do. What kind of thread, did you use? The stitches are so even and decorative. Any suggestions, or advice, on doing them? Looks very Pro to me, so your advice and wisdom would be appreciated.

Minda 11-22-2007 06:42 AM

I read the other thread that says this stitch is the same as fly stitch. I've used fly stitch on decorative embroidery, but never thought of using it to hold a quilt together. Fantastic idea!! Thank you Sara.

annmarie 11-22-2007 10:12 AM

Only today we should call them TURKEY FEET lol Great job.

ShellyQ 11-22-2007 02:10 PM

I love scrappy quilts too and yours is fab  The way you've used the crowsfoot quilting really finishes it off nicely :D

mawmawbeve_60 11-22-2007 05:36 PM

great Job...Luv The Quilting :D

nanabirdmo 11-23-2007 06:49 AM

rebecca, thanks for the kind words. the stitch is very easy. i used a big ball of verigated crochet thread. if you saw it in person you would see that the stitches aren't perfect, but with practice they get pretty uniform. it looks old fashioned to me. plus the quilting goes really fast. you take a stitch and then travel inside about 1/2 inch to the next one. it is very satisfying to someone like me without a lot of patience for hand quilting

Chele 11-23-2007 07:02 AM

Wow! What a great quilt! I love scrappy quilts and the crowfoot quilting is awesome.

Rebecca Chambley 11-23-2007 07:46 AM

nana,,,I think you have alot of patience, with doing the stitch consistently, and so evenly, as well as doing the whole quilt. You don't give yourself enough credit.

Kyiav10 11-23-2007 10:05 PM

I love this quilt. Kyia

Denise 11-24-2007 08:49 AM

Love your quilt and the crow feet. I've never heard of crow feet either. I must keep in mind to use in a future quilt. Great work.

susan s. 11-24-2007 09:46 AM

Wow! Is that hand quilted? I sure like the simple patterns they really show off the color combos and stitching.

MsSage 01-04-2009 05:55 AM

I have wanted to try hand quilting but I dont have the time or LOL patience.
This would look great on a bird quilt..........

lfw045 01-04-2009 06:17 AM

Nana, did you use embroidery thread or hand quilting thread to make the turkey tracks?

Thanks,

Linda D.

PS. Saw the answer above........thanks! :D

sewnsewer2 01-04-2009 07:56 AM

Very pretty and I love the way you quilted it! I've never seen that stitch before.

susan s. 01-04-2009 08:02 AM

It is amazing that such a simple pattern can look so complicated and it really turned out beautifully. About how big is that actually? I can't really tell from the photos. It appears to be throw sized.

Dawn Hendrix 01-04-2009 08:05 AM

I think you did a GREAT job!!!

Really love the crows feet!

nanabirdmo 01-05-2009 07:24 AM

ifw045, thanks for looking at my little lap quilt. i used the lightest weight crotchet thread to make the turkey tracks. it goes really fast.

nanabirdmo 01-05-2009 07:27 AM

thanks susan, yes this is a throw and i didn't really measure. i know i should but i get distracted easily, lol. i make my throws pretty generous. i have heard that when making them for people in wheel chairs they should be smaller so they don't get caught in the wheels. but mine are mostly for recliners so i make them a little smaller than twin size.

Bevanger 01-05-2009 08:19 AM

What an awesome idea :D I love your quilt

Diane007 09-28-2012 09:24 AM

When you used the variegated thread, what needle did you use? I have not used that kind of crochet thread, but I assume it would take a bigger sewing needle?

southernmema 01-09-2014 05:04 AM

THANK YOU!!!! Thimblebug your second post is the one I remembered. Very clear directions. The others provide very helpful info as well. I am making a quilt from men's deconstructed neckties and want to use this stitch to "quilt" it. Again, thank you!! I love this board!

ladysuds 01-09-2014 06:58 AM

javin22 01-09-2014 12:10 PM
