Just got home from quilt retreat cruise...what fun, this is the quilt kit that was included in the retreat. Hope you can see enought of it...It was called "circles at sea" by the "swirly girls"...had 4 days of 80º and then home to Michigan in a snow storm...it is just not warming up...bummer!

I love this quilt! What a wonderful thing-a quilt cruise! ! The colors are so beautiful.

toolazy 03-22-2013 09:20 AM

That's a really pretty quilt! Love the colors and the design.

I've never heard of a quilt cruise. Tell us more about it! Did everyone make the same quilt, or many different ones? Where did the cruise go, and what other kinds of activities were there?

quilts4charity 03-22-2013 09:26 AM

Wonderful, your quilt looks like sunshine and sea water a great reminder of a fun time!!!!!

Very pretty, love the colors, batiks ... are the circles appliqued on? Sounds like you had a wonderful cruise, totally unlike so many that have been in the news of late.

DeneK 03-22-2013 12:05 PM

Love your quilt, especially the colors. I have a similar pattern in a different colorway that is on my next-to-do list. I hope mine turns out as nicely as yours.

Your quilt is beautiful - and the perfect colors and design to remind you of your cruise, even if it's snowing outside.

We sailed out of Baltimore, MA and there were 36 quilters...18 sewed one day and 18 the next day...when we weren't in the sewing room we were doing hand projects, things that they had kits all made up for. FUN! we had Janome Horizon sewing machines which I fell in love with and had to buy one LOL, couldn't resist. My sewing machine is 15 years old so it was time. I am going to start selling some of my collection, FW and Brother 270D first...can only sew on one at a time right? The food was great and the shore excursions well worth the money and I got to spend time with my DD who is also a quilter. The quilt designer was "The Swirly Girls" and the quilt shop was Kelly Ann's from VA We all made the same quilt.

Was wondering how to find a cruise like this, especially leaving out of Baltimore, Ma. I am also from MI. Well in the summer months! Lol We winter in AZ. Been on a few cruises, but always out of FL or CA. This sounds like it would have been lots of fun, nice time for you and your daughter. Giving me ideas! Thanks for your time...Kathy K.

Very nice quilt! Sorry you came back to a snowstorm. Spring is off to a slow start here in NH too. I hope you enjoyed your cruise. I would love to take one of those someday. I like your quilt inspector in your avatar photo!

MargeD 03-24-2013 08:40 AM

What a great "bonus" from your quilting cruise to have a completed quilt top. Bummer to come home to a snow storm, but you have a great quilt to remember your cruise.

The only problem is that NONE accept single travelers. Some of us don't have anyone to go with

Grandma Peg 03-24-2013 11:08 AM

Very nice quilt and lucky you to go on a cruise to quilt!!! Bet it was great. Then reality sets in when you have to come home to all that snow, ice and cold.

Karen G 03-24-2013 12:31 PM

Beautiful reminder of your days at sea. It will warm up, eventually. I'm waiting for boat season, too!

Auntie Em 03-24-2013 03:12 PM

What fun....beautiful quilt!!!

Our local quilt shop is having a cruise from Galveston to the Caribbean next Feb. Really looking forward to going! I have been on one cruise with my husband of 36 yrs., but not on a quilting cruise. I love retreats, and this will be the best of both.

Our favorite quilt shop in Deland FL has a quilting cruise to Alaska next month and a cruise of the Hawaiian Islands next year that I hope to go on. You have classes/demos and kits to work on on the sea days. They furnish all the sewing machines - kits - everything - you don't have to take anything. You can usually meet someone else who is looking for a "roomie". Go to lunch together or something to meet, if you are not comfortable rooming with a 'stranger'. I went to the Holy Lands with a group and roomed with a lady I didn't know and we had a great time and we go to lunch and shop a few times a year since.
