I'm going to have to put this quilt on hold for a couple of days. I've decided I hated the lighting in my room so hubby is installing new fixtures over my sewing desk and over my cutting tables and hopefully something for over my ironing board area.. So the last couple of days Ive been filling totes and totes of fabrics that have not found its home on my shelves yet. I refuse to say I have way tooooo much fabric. How can one have to much?!?!?!? It cant be so..

Anyhoo, Ill post more on Crumbs, Crumbs, Crumbs progress when Lighting demo is over..

Thanks for following along on my progress..

Friendly Quilter 10-10-2010 08:12 AM

That looks like a great start to me.

Friendly Quilter 10-10-2010 08:13 AM

OK well I'm finally back to my crumb quilt.. A few obstacles in my way.. Nah I think i'm just being a bit picky when it comes to my sewing room.. I hated the lighting... I had an over head florescent light on the ceiling, two floor lamps with reveal light bulbs, a bendable floor lamp on my counter top shining a reveal light bulb down on my cutting board, a florescent desk lamp to shine on the other side of my cutting table.. Ugh it was horrible.. SO this is what hubby got me instead.. I put in the reveal lights and WOW!! What a difference!!!

I have a light- adjusted and pointed to the spots I need/wanted light!!!! Yay!!!!!

Luvtooquilt, I love your crumb quilt.

redmadder 03-03-2011 05:07 AM

So that's a crumb quilt. Here I have been making them for 30 years and calling them string or crazy quilts. He he. Don't ask me to post pictures, someone always grabs them as soon as they are finished.

redmadder 03-03-2011 05:08 AM

Oh by the way, it's absolutely gorgeous.

Janice Thompson 03-04-2011 09:47 AM

I have been saving crumbs but haven't taken the big step to put them in a block. Kind of reminds me of crazy quilts

LoriEl 03-04-2011 01:23 PM

I didn't know what a crumb quilt was but it is what I used to think a quilt was. I like it. I don't know if I'll ever have the time or patience to make one but at least now I know what I'm saving all those crumbs for!

Tea Time Tess 03-04-2011 05:56 PM

At the risk of sounding really ignorant, is a crumb quilt the same as a scrappy quilt? I have never heard that term before.

Would I be correct in assuming a crumb quilt is made from small scraps and not just extra fabric lying around??

Look forward to the enlightenment!

carolaug 03-04-2011 05:58 PM

Wow...its getting there!

Hi Tess,
That is exactly what I think a crumb quilt is- just as you describe. Made from very small pieces that are first sewn together to make a bigger piece of fabric compared to a scrappy one where you already have the whole fabric and cut it into pieces. Scrappy to me means a lot of different colors all mish-mashed together with no particular pattern. Just my opinion, tho.

We call using, and reusing the Yankee way and never to waste a thing. I come from New England and it's the way to go! I have learned never rain on anybody style

fabric_lover 03-25-2011 06:19 AM

Looking good. Would look nice with white shashing around blocks also.

Jojesek 03-25-2011 06:32 AM

I admire your block beginnings. I am new to quilting and I like crazy quilting. Any tips on how you get those pieces to fit together so neatly? What size seam allowance do you use? Mine never fit right (I've been using embellishments to cover the holes, is that cheating?) Also, by the time I'm done, my blocks are so bumpy and lumpy! Love watching your progress on this.

luce321 08-05-2011 02:58 PM

Your quilt is looking great. I just love it. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Janice Thompson 08-31-2011 04:51 PM

Would love to see your finished project. I started sewing crumbs together..... Waiting to see what size block would be most practible. Do you put them on a base?

Diane Baldwin 09-02-2011 08:09 AM

Thanx for the pictures. Now I see what a crumb is. This work is truely inspirational. I am bless in two ways, a thrifty New Englander and also a thrifty Scot. Most of us are able to construct just a 3.5 inch block from "throw-away" tidbits, and look what you have done! Congratulations, you make it look fun.
