That is very cool - that would be fun to just sew them together than cut out squares or triangles - now I want to do it too.

Have you tried the website www.quiltville.com ? It's run by a lady name Bonnie Hunt. She has FREE patterns on there for crumbs and scraps quilts. Your stash would be perfect to make of her quilt patterns. i've made probably a dozen quilts using her patterns.

I LOVE her site.. My scraps are organized thanks to her.. right now i'm only using the CRUMB bin.. Im actually having lots of fun. Its like doing a puzzle.. finding pieces that 'fit' one another..

Ill post pics tomorrow of my progress..

Can't wait to see more. It's so fun to just piece them together in such a random way.

christina bennett 10-03-2010 04:51 AM

Wow!
This is exactly what I do with my scraps. I sew a few pieces every time I sew any thing. This way they don't grow and multiply too quickly. I use my 6 inch template to square them up. I have a bin for finished ones.So when I think I have enough for a project There they are.
I now beg my freinds to save their crumbs for me!
Happy Scrapping
Christina

Wonderful beginnings

carolaug 10-03-2010 05:44 AM

You are getting me motivated....I think I may cut some more of my left over scraps in to small blocks and start piecing them together. I also have two tops that I need to complete with borders and binder. I am thinking of using the quilt I bought at a local store prior to my quilting adventure, that is in my quest room for the backing. I figure I can just cut off the binding and rebind with my handmade quilt. http://www.thriftyideastoday.com/

hcarpanini 10-03-2010 06:09 AM

I have one of those, or two or three (totes).

Day Two:

So far its pretty scrappy.. NO rhyme or reason for placement just going with the flow.. I decided not to square up but use one side with a straight edge.. More work trying to 'fit' the puzzles pieces but i'm liking how it looks like confetti to me.. I'm still using the pieces of my crumb bin and i soooo have not made a dent in it yet..

Day Three::

I'm sick. think Ive got the flu.. I'm in bed today recuperating. Crumb quilt put on hold.. I just get up every once in a while to get something to drink - oh yes, and to check my computer to see what I've missed on this board.. ;)

CoventryUK 10-04-2010 01:40 PM

Oh dear, how miserable! Hope you feel better soon! Love n hugs from the UK. The piecing is looking good so far, love it!!

Jennifer22206 10-04-2010 01:53 PM

OH my goodness, I love it so far! I just love the scraps of fabric you've got. I wish I could come play in your house! I'd swim in that fabric - it's so awesome looking!

carolaug 10-04-2010 02:07 PM

Yah...went to visit the folks and came home with a huge bag of material ; )

brookemarie19 10-04-2010 02:40 PM

Can't wait to see how this ends up. You guys are such an inspiration to us who can't picture things and do things without a pattern. Looks great so far.

cctx. 10-04-2010 02:53 PM

I'm doing the same thing around here. I have way too many small pieces and working on 6.5" blocks since last week. So far I have made 24 crumb blocks and will keep adding on til I finish the size top I want. These are fun to make because one does not have to worry on matching up points/or pattern design/& or color coordination.
And your blocks are looking Good too!

Day Three: Yesterday

I'm still feeling pretty crappy, but I'm determined not to let this cold/flu get the better of me. Sitting around was driving me nuts knowing my quilt was calling me to finish it. So I tried yesterday for as long as I could. Its currently 30x45 and I have a long way to go for a queen size. One thing I did realize is that I like the look of the smaller pieces and not too keen on the bigger strips I used ,so I think I'm gonna stray from using any strips and only use the itty bitty pieces in my crumb tote from now on. Oh yea, FYI- No dent in my crumb tote yet!

I like the itty bitty pices better

Day Four: Yesterday

I'm still quite under the weather but I wanted to at least get something done.. a few wannabe WIP blocks..

One good thing of being sick there were no shortage of kleenex boxes- they doubled as a Crumb's crumb catcher. Once full it'll get tossed..

Did a lil cleaning-this is the combined pile found on the floor scattered everywhere !!!

I would also like to see what you do with these pieces, as I have a couple of tubs like that also and wonder what I'm gonna do with it. Keep us posted. Also thanks for the website quiltville.com.

I've been thinking about you and your quilts while looking at luvto's work!
Think you two are getting me to think outside my tight little box!

earthwalker 10-06-2010 06:46 PM

Love it....

SandyinZ4 10-06-2010 06:47 PM

You have inspired me to also start piecing together my crumbs. I sorted through a bunch and paired up sides and keep a stack near my machine so if I need a leader or an ender, I use those. Then toss on ironing board when done to be ironed. Then I trim the sides to straight edges and toss them into another pile to be the next bunch to be made into a stack. So far, I have lots of joined pieces 2-3 inches across so have a long way to go but gotta start somewhere. Keep showing us your progress. I will try to do the same in a few days.

Day Five: today

I decided that I didn't like the long strips in the quilt so I whacked, cut and sewed it back together again.. and this is what it turned out to be.. I Like it better.. I even added a siggie tag in the corner -If you look on the bottom right you can kinda see the mouse siggie block.. i took a pic but it came out blurry, but you get the idea.. I figured someone had to claim this madness..lol !

Love them kleenex boxes.. They are great for snipped threads and crumbs crumbs...

Tissue anyone? oh wait thats Crumb's crumbs!!
