This is the result of playing in the Christmas scraps....it grew a little.
The cubes have mostly metallic or sparkly fabrics - which dont photograph so well - but it really "shines".
The border ribboned fmq is in red and green.
Thanks for looking.

I am almost ashamed to put my quilt pictures up. We have some really talented quilters on this board and way creative.

Katrine 06-20-2010 07:14 AM

Thank you all - I am really pleased you like it, I wondered if people would as it not a "traditional Christmas" theme. I have some lovely Christmas blues I will do another with - I am going to a Gift Fair in late November and want some "different" items to try and sell.
Although I won't be going into mass production! - it seems to take me ages cutting and constructing the hollow cubes. It's much quicker to attack a FQ than try and use bits of scraps!

Don't be silly - ALL quilts are lovely, and we all learn from each other (and ourselves, ask me how I know  )
So - post your pictures.....

crawford1219 06-20-2010 07:59 AM

It wasnt a pattern as such, just the cubes from the "One Block Wonder Encore" book.

here's a link

What an inspiration you are Katrine! I love this one too!! I am fascinated with optical illusions and these cubes always draw me. I love your use of color. I looked and studied it to see where you placed the differant cubes and the differant colors. It is so beautiful.Maybe I will have to try this one day.

Gal 06-20-2010 08:55 AM

Wow, very nice, it looks complicated to me. Nice to see something different for Christmas rather than the same old same old!

Ta Rhonda - hey what about mini-cubes?
They would surely be a big hit with your sales????

Katrine 06-20-2010 09:09 AM

I am so encouraged by all the positive comments I am racking the grey matter now for something else "alternative" for Christmas!

Hey great idea Katrine!! I will have to roll that around and try it!
A hotpad would be ideal for this! Or a tote!

ann clare 06-20-2010 09:21 AM

Beautiful work. love the 3D effect

SaraSewing 06-20-2010 09:50 AM

I love looking at this one far away. It is very nice done in Christmas colors. You have done a very nice job. It reminds me of Escher's drawings of optical illusions. http://www.google.com/images?q=Esche...hl=en&tbs=isch:1&ei=gFQeTImMHILrnQfa9cW0Cw&sa=N&start=20&ndsp=2 0

Thanks Sara - have you seen this with Escher quilts?

A while back someone posted some exhibition pictures on here which included Escher quilts too.

HeatherQuilts 06-20-2010 10:01 AM

Very pretty! I really like the binding! It really pops, and adds dimension to the quilt. Great work! :D
