Remember months ago when I was collecting fabrics for this CW quilt for my husband? With Melissa's help I found websites with good selections. I tried to get an assortment of colors and print sizes. Here's how much I got done over this Christmas break--the going with be slower now, but that's fine--no deadlines with this one. :D

All the set in triangles are cut.

I'll have Mark take a look at tell me which colors he likes best and steer toward those hues for the rest of the 12 star squares...

My new machine has REALLY helped to make those points!! It makes me crazy sometimes, but I can forgive a lot for the 1/4" line on this new baby. :D

I turned the very distracting rug to black and white for you!!

Great job Karla!

few more
And--I'm saving every triangle from the Flying geese trims--and sewing them into 2" squares. I have plans to turn them into doll quilts.

Oh! Here's the pattern....

I rarely stick to colors a pattern suggests--but in this case, I wanted it to be a close to a reproduction as possible.

Mark says he likes the blues and reds best--so the remaining 12 will be mostly that, with at least two more greens.

Dawn Hendrix 01-04-2009 09:22 AM

I really REALLY like this... might have to be added to my WANNA do list!

Rob 01-04-2009 09:58 AM

I really like historical stuff. Your fabric choices are terrific. I doubt if I could purchase them, and coordinate them so nicely as you. I better start studying!

lyndawn 01-04-2009 10:09 AM

Beautiful! I have plans to make a CW quilt, but I'm not sure what I want to do yet. I've been collecting fabrics though..hehe

You did a fantastic job! can't wait to see it all finished!

Lynette

sewjoyce 01-04-2009 10:15 AM

Very pretty!! Can't wait to see it finished!

Izy 01-04-2009 10:28 AM

Karla, that is stunning, what a great job you are doing :D

barnbum 01-04-2009 11:07 AM

Rob--I have all the faith that you could pick colors just fine. Pretty much anything goes; it's scrappy and CW repro fabrics are already the right colors. :D I bought every one online--which was fun--but not all the colors were true on the photos. Some websites were better than others.

There are several patterns available, too. This one is pretty easy--I like those big ole triangle squares. Hubby picked it. He's a CW NUT--that's all he reads about. He's never been interested in having a quilt to call his own, until I brought up this whole CW idea. I learned about it here, as I did half of what I know.

Mamagus 01-04-2009 11:11 AM

Very nice job!! I like it! And I am not a big CW fabric fan. I guess it must be the cultural relevance aspect.... or not!

Chele 01-04-2009 11:13 AM

It's looking great! I love that you made it scrappy! More opportunities to buy different fabrics!

barnbum 01-04-2009 11:18 AM

Chele--you're right--I had to buy a LOT. It's kind of a backwards idea to make a scrap quilt when one doesn't have an inch of needed fabric. But--it was fun to shop. I sold that sunflower quilt last year and spent all the $$ on these fabrics. We celebrate our 25th next year--I'll tell Mark it's his anniversary gift. :D

It's getting tricky to make a one-of-a-kind square with what's left--but I'm not against making two of Mark's favorites.

I'm thinking when it's all done--it will take a LONG time to arrange it in a way that suits me.

I already have the border and backing fabrics--the borders are a striped piece--which I've never worked with before. I'll have to ask for hints on how to keep it straight.

Any leftover will be used for a Broken Dishes, I think. Sigh--so many plans, so little time.

Barbm 01-04-2009 12:04 PM

I love it, I've been collecting charms and fats, etc. for a CW someday. Not sure what it will be- maybe stars, maybe triangles, maybe a more involved pattern. Haven't found one yet that draws my attention. Of course, after seeing yours I may need to move this one up the "to do" list!

mpeters1200 01-04-2009 12:05 PM

Holy Seams Batman....GORGEOUS!!! All those little points. I'm a beginner, but work like this keeps me going. I know, with practice, I can make something like that someday!

Karla--your fabrics are fab--I cannot believe that you bought them all online! Fun, but gutsy!!

I have admired that pattern too--I have such a huge CW stash that I think I could make it without buying a single fabric! Maybe someday......

I cannot wait to see your quilt finished. Does Mark like to watch the progress???

kd124 01-05-2009 11:39 PM

I was just learning what exactly a CW repro was (still am)--and none of the shops around here have a specific selection of them--they're out there, but mixed in with everything else. No way could I have found them.

Mark enjoyed seeing it laid out and was happy to show me which squares he liked the best so I can steer the rest towards those....

Between school and chores...I think I'm back to weekend sewing for a bit. Two hours of grading and assignment creating last night, but the kids did great jobs on their book reports!!! :D :D

tlrnhi 01-06-2009 03:11 AM

Yeah! School is back and I have my job again! :) :) :) lol

quiltwoman 01-06-2009 03:24 AM

My5 yr old is sitting here and he said "Mom, that looks great! Do that!". So you officially get the man-seal-of-approval

Love it! Great fabric choices with a great pattern.

tlrnhi 01-06-2009 03:31 AM
