D9P- My very first one.
Went to a friend's a couple of weeks ago and learned about the disappearing 9 patch. I had a friend I wanted to make a quilt for so I used this pattern. This is only my 5th quilt that I've made.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...ps7edc24d9.jpg I didn't have a "real" pattern to follow other than how to make the sew the 9 squares together and then how to cut them. It came out just a bit bigger than lap. |
Wonderful job and I just love the colors you selected!

It is lovely. You made a good quilt. When we get "the quilting bug" it is so much fun to discover new patterns and admire our own progress. I made nearly two (2) dozen quilts/items within the first 24 months. Now, I just mostly admire others' work and make a few. My longarmer is getting busier and I do not know if I want to try someone else, therefore, I have slowed down considerably.

I love the colors and the way you arranged them.
|
Well done, that is a super D9P!
|
How yummy!!!! Your friend is sure to L-O-V-E this quilt! Keep up the good work
|
Beautiful quilt and lovely fabrics!
|
Pretty colors and isn't it amazing how the pattern changes that "plain" old 9-patch? That is so pretty.
|
Your friend is lucky to receive such a beautiful quilt.

Thank you!!!! I really hope she likes it. I'm fairly nervous. I mailed it out on Saturday so I can hardly wait for her to get it.
I was a bit nervous starting this one. All I had was 12 fat quarters and hand written instructions on how to construct the squares. Then it seemed like I had a lot of left overs, so I decided to use the leftover as a scrappy border. The scrappy border was suppose to be the last border, but something just seemed missing. I'm so glad I used a piece of the backing fabric for another border. I have to say that I LOVE each quilt. When I'm sitting there and hand stitching the binding, I can hardly believe that I actually MADE this. On another note: My very first quilt top I started 8-9 years ago. My grandmother had made me a quilt and I had lost it in my travels so I wanted something that reminded me of her. I could remember her using a piece of 5" cardboard and cutting each piece seperately. I didn't know anything about quilting then....so that's what I did. I cut each piece of fabric using a piece of 5" cardboard. Once I got the top together, I didn't know what to do next. I didn't even know there were people out there I could have hired to finish it for me. So it's been sitting in my hope chest for 8-9 years. I almost threw it away this year, but a dear friend of mine talked me into taking a quilting class over the summer and asked to see my quilt top. I showed it to her and she said she could quilt it and took it. I, miserably, made my way through my summer quilting class, as it was an hr drive one way each week and I'm not a ppl person. But I am glad I continued with it. I like nothing better than quilting. (except maybe horse backriding, lol) Anyways...the quilt I made 8-9 years ago, I finally finished putting the binding on it tonight. I was blessed that my friend knows way more about quilting than I and that she has a long arm machine and quilted it for me. I didn't know what I was doing back then...it's not much more than cheap walmart fabrics in what I now know is a simple 9 patch. I laid it on my bed tonight and I just want to cry. From happiness that it's done and for my grandmother who isn't here to see it. I am feeling very sentimental. I thought I would also share it with ya'll tonight. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...ps026f546d.jpg |

Y'all are so wonderful for my self esteem for quilting!! Thank you for the wonderful compliments and words of encouragement.
I bought a darning foot yesterday. I am going to <gulp> try my hand at learning to free motion quilt next.:-) :-) The only problem I keep running into when i try to do a basic quilt on my blankets is that my backing fabric bunches sometimes. No matter how tight i tried to get the fabric. So it worries me to try doing free motion. |
Beautiful. BrendaK

This is so very pretty! Looks like the perfect fall-into-winter quilt. The colors are great together!
