I was asked if I had enough time to quickly quilt on 4 lap quilts. I said yes after hearing the story. A friend of mine lost her husband a year ago and she wanted to make 4 quilts (one for each of their children) and have the quilts made out of the Dad's shirts. So all 4 quilts were made and I long-armed them together in time for Christmas. The picture below is the daughters quilt with 4 hearts in it. Wont that be a great gift for them? :-D

What a nice thing for you to do at this busy time of year. I am sure they will be so much loved and appreciated. You are one of the 'special' quilters.

So special. We lost a dear friend a week ago, and I want to suggest this to the wife for their 2 grown children. Just don't want to do it too soon, or wait to long. He was a teacher and a very strong christian. I already have symbols in my mind...your quilts are beautiful...love the hearts. Christ*mas Blessings

Awww what a great remembrance of dad. I would have loved to have made a quilt out of my dad's flannel shirts after he passed but sadly my sister took it upon herself to get rid of all of his clothes before asking. I really love this quilt and what it symbolizes. great job.

clem55 12-13-2010 11:31 AM

I just love the quilt, and the thoughts behind them. Thanks for sharing and for helping her out.

caliquocat 12-13-2010 02:45 PM

You are a real jewel to take on making 4 quilts by Christmas. I know they will cherish the memory of their Dad. My friend made a quilt from her husband's plaid shirts and called it her "quilt of tears". I hope she will get past the feeling.

maryel 12-13-2010 03:02 PM

drdolly 12-14-2010 06:28 AM

That was so great of you to do that. We had a nurse from Hospice ask our guild to make a t-shirt quilt for a daughter who lost her mother this year. The mother had intended it for Christmas. Well it got done and it sure makes you feel so good inside.

MomtoBostonTerriers 12-14-2010 06:30 AM

Beautiful quilt. Beautiful expression of your thoughtfulness for these children. Surely they will feel their dad's arms around them when wrapped in these quilts.

Peggyinno 12-14-2010 08:29 AM

That will be such a special gift for them to cherish forever. I am in the process of doing the same thing for a niece who lost her husband and has 3 girls. I was thrilled when she asked me to make them each a quilt.

Momof3Es 12-14-2010 08:32 AM

That is just awesome! Now they will be wrapped with dad's arms every night! What an awesome idea!!

Great job.....you made time at Christmas for the IMPORTANT things. God bless you :)

Becca Bear 12-14-2010 05:34 PM

That is a beautiful quilt that will surely be treasured. My sister made a similar type of quilt for my mom, out of my dad's shirts, after he passed away. The quilt is a favorite topic for everyone in the family. There have been so many stories shared among the family members about the different adventures we each remember having with my dad when he was wearing one of the shirts that is now preserved in the quilt. It is a really nice memento of a person's life.

cindygale 12-14-2010 06:25 PM
