This quilt was made with Civil War fabrics. I live in the low country of South Carolina and they have not lost the war yet.
Naturaly, here we learned in school that the South was defeated. General Lee surrendered to General Grant. There are lots of pictures to prove it. any how, the quilt took me two years to finish it. The original pattern was from PEOPLE PLACES AND QUILTS in Summerville and Charleston, South Carolina(The low country). It was this quilt that provied to me that I cannot make bed size quilts. I started this when my Son-in-Law was sent to Korea for a year , and returned and is stationed in Fort Hood,Texas. ceegee |

Oh, you made me laugh with this. I moved to NC a short time ago, from Ohio, but I grew up in central NY. One day at church someone commented about my Mom in NY and one of the ladies looked at another and said, "She's a yankee!?". I guess it's OK but I had a moment I wondered what would happen. When we were house searching the realtor told us to say we were from Ohio until people got to know us. But, I know I was born to live in the south, it just took me a while to get here!

oh that is gorgeous. I'm sure DD & SIL think it's fabulous and you were so quick in making it! My DD & SIL are still waiting for their 15th Wedding Anniversary Quilt which started life out as a 10th!! Their anniversary was a month ago. It's all pieced but too way big to put through my machine so I bought a second hand frame and a Grand Quilter. I want to wait til I'm good enough at feathers or big swirls as there are big borders so practicing on the many quilt tops I've got. One day I will be brave enough and just go for it but that day has not dawned yet as I've just loaded another top.

I had to laugh though...I'm from NC and you are so right..the War sure isn't over here either! :-) (and don't ever call it the "Civil War" either! My sweet Southern Momma will roll over in her grave! lol) To the person from NC (via Ohio): there is a quilt show at the Cabarrus Events Arena in Concord NC Sept 24-25 2010 (Fri/Sat). |
I like it. Love the color combination.
