My DD asked me to make this quilt for her B'day. She picked out most of the fabric, the pattern is from Quilt Magazine Feb/Mar issue page 14 (Sweet Girly Girl) We made pillows to coordinate and are working on a bed skirt and quilted shams also. She didn't get to see the quilt until her party, but i did let her see a pillow each day until her b'day to pacify her.She lets me know quite often how much she loves her new quilt. She wants her walls aqua with a lime green accent wall, I'm not sold on it yet, i like the neutral taupe she has now.

I love the quilt and the pillows-you did a fabulous job! I think the walls would be awesome in the aqua with a lime accent. My 4 year old has orange and purple walls-it's only paint :-)
Hugs
April

Really Sweet!! I really like the pinky-coral pillow (that's how I'm seeing it) That would also rock as an accent wall.

dakotamaid 03-05-2010 09:23 AM

Most tweens or teens love bright colors, must be in their genes!! As someone else said, it is only paint! :D :D The quilt is lovely and all those accents will make this room a showcase. Her friends will envy her. :-D

rootyr 03-05-2010 09:28 AM

Very sweet!

Marjpf 03-05-2010 09:30 AM

Great job - what fun! And I can think of no way better to highlight it than with those aqua walls. Love the pillow with the stripped bow.
When my daughters were that age, we repainted their rooms at least once a year to match their moods as they grew. My husband was convinced we were putting so much paint on the walls that we were losing square footage. The phase passes eventually.

MaryStoaks 03-05-2010 09:31 AM

So pretty. You both did a great job. It looks so happy!

collettakay 03-05-2010 09:33 AM

I love it!!

Mamagus 03-05-2010 09:41 AM

Beautiful job! Aww... paint the walls. Believe me, if you don't she'll never let you forget it! LOL. BUT if you do, just think what you can say to her down the road when she is a parent... "Remember that odious colour you wanted your room painted? I went along with that..."

Jim's Gem 03-05-2010 09:43 AM

The quilt is beautiful and I love the pillows!!!!

mytwopals 03-05-2010 10:01 AM

Very pretty quilt.

Just remember, it's her room. And after she gets older and leaves the nest, you can always repaint it back to taupe.

littlehud 03-05-2010 10:22 AM

Beautiful quilt. She did a great job picking out her fabrics. I think her colors for the walls would look great. You can always paint it later.

thequilteddove 03-05-2010 10:36 AM

Great quilt & pillows! I'm w/your daughter! I'd want aqua walls too! The quilt will really pot then!

Lisa T 03-05-2010 10:37 AM

Gorgeous quilt and pillows. I agree with everyone else. It's just paint!

Margie 03-05-2010 10:44 AM

VERY PRETTY!! You did a wonderful job.

Margie

Wonderful

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 03-05-2010 11:23 AM

I want to live in her room!!

Let her paint it, if you can. Paint is not all that expensive and wall color just isn't a battle worth fighting. When my oldest son was that age, he painted his wall soft grey and then used squirt guns and spray bottles to add bright primary colors. It didn't suit my taste, but I earned a ton of "cool Mom" points and it was not that big a deal to paint over when he moved out.

Quilter7x 03-05-2010 11:27 AM

I agree to paint the room, it is only paint. For her to appreciate it more, have her paint it herself.

Really nice quilt and pillows. :D

MollieSue 03-05-2010 11:30 AM

Beautiful job on the quilt and matching pillows!!! :) :)

LoisN 03-05-2010 11:50 AM

Beautiful quilt and pillows. My daughter's room is 2 dark shades of aqua with white bedding and it is gorgeous. I say aqua is a MUST! It will really highlight the quilt. Plus it's easy enough to paint over later.

beckyw 03-05-2010 11:54 AM

Paint the room. My son has orange walls and carpet.

Ditter43 03-05-2010 12:44 PM

She did a great job picking out the fabrics. You did a beautiful job on the rest! You can both be proud. As far as the walls go, be glad she doesn't want to paint them black! Maybe she would be happy to start with three aqua walls and the taupe wall behind the bed. It would look great...add more lime green accents. Even if you end up painting the way she wants it, it will be okay.

barnbum 03-05-2010 02:32 PM

How perfect is that!! I vote YES on her wall color ideas, too!! It's an easy place to let kids have some say. And paint is cheap.

dkabasketlady 03-05-2010 05:16 PM

What a striking quilt and pillows! Let your DD have her "WILD" side, it's only paint and you can paint over it when her tastes change. They're only young once and want to express themselves. Just remind her about paybacks when she has a DD of her own one day and wants to do the same thing. Enjoy, my DD is 26 yrs. and still loves bright colors, lol!

Oklahoma Suzie 03-05-2010 05:32 PM

Really cute. I think Aqua walls would look nice.

trupeach 03-05-2010 05:47 PM

beautiful job and oh so girly.

PLEASE PLEASE let her paint the room whatever color she wants even if you HATE it. Her life and yours could be changed in a split second and you could regret not letting her paint her room the way she wants to. I know this all too well. Read the threads I have started about my daughter and you will understand why I say PLEASE let her do it.

amazon 03-05-2010 10:55 PM

UPDATE: Aqua & lime green paint bought, painting tomorrow! What sold me? The wonderful comments and votes for let her paint it, it's only paint.I also spoke to my mom today, commented on posting and the great response, she quickly reminded me of my (Lavendar phase) I had lavendar walls, sea foam green carpet, and peach accents you know that early 80's decor.Whoops How could I have forgotten that?So I had to test the colors out, the quilt pops against the aqua and I do have to say it looks fantastic! Thanks for the lovely comments, will post when we get the second coat on.

Debbie1 03-05-2010 11:16 PM

That is so cute with the pillows and all! Great job!

eiltcoq 03-06-2010 07:13 AM

Mamagus,
Years ago, my son wanted a Teal colored bedroom. It was quite bright and before the color was popular. When he went to college, we repainted the wall a beige. I wished I kept the teal color, because it's popular, now and I love teal. Eiltcoq.

Eddie 03-06-2010 07:17 AM

Beautiful stuff! The colors are great and the pillows really make the whole thing. You did a super job on it all.

And I agree with April - it's only paint. My 14 year old daughter has deep pink walls and an accent wall of black and white stripes. Definitely different from the white walls she had before!

jewelps 03-06-2010 07:21 AM

love them all, great match on the pillows

Esqmommy 03-06-2010 09:31 AM

Wow, fabulous work there!!!

I say go for it on the wall color. My daughter has lime green and deep purple, it's bright, and she LOVES it!

Clueless Quilter 03-06-2010 02:35 PM

What a pretty quilt! Your DD has wonderful taste is fabric. The pillows are so cute add so much.

I have to agree with the others to let her paint. I think it would really add a finished designer look to the room.

When I was growing up our parents would buy us paint and let us paint yearly as long as we were willing to do the work. Not only was it a good learning experience but a fun family project for all.

sewsewquilter 03-06-2010 05:23 PM

Very cute quilt. Let her paint the room. It was one of the most fun things my mom let me do when I was a teen. :-D

Jingle 03-06-2010 07:14 PM

Beautiful quilt and pillows, just perfect for a 13 year old.

zz-pd 03-06-2010 11:48 PM

I love it. you did a wonderful job on everything. I bet she talks about that forever. Penny

wesing 03-07-2010 10:25 AM

You did a wonderful job on the quilt and accessories; they look great!

As far as the wall paint, I'm glad you decided to let her do it. All the comments here are absolutely true: paint is personal, relatively inexpensive, and can be easily changed later. More important, you let her express herself in a positive way and make memories that will last her whole life.

I would advise, like some of the others, that you let her do some or most of the work. Then when you need help painting the living room later this year, she will have experience and you can recruit her to help!

Your DD did a great job of choosing fabrics for this wonderful quilt...Love it and the pillows too.

Such a lucky girl to have such a talented mom.

warm quilt hugs, sue in CA

Lisanne 03-07-2010 11:47 AM

Cute quilt and pillows. I'm with your daughter - I say, let her paint her walls the colors she wants. It's her space, where she spends a lot of time. In five or so years when she's out of the house, you can paint them taupe again. The colors will match the quilt perfectly.

studio-christine 03-07-2010 08:17 PM

ah yes....."it's only"......

my 12 year old daughter cut her own hair.....after all, "it's only hair"

it will grow back, but she learned her lesson

would have preferred to paint her room!! :-D
