Definitely Not De-Kaffe

About two years ago my daughter spied this quilt on the cover of Kaffe Fassett's "Simple Shapes Spectacular Quilts" book. The book caught her eye from across the store, which is easy to imagine how when it comes to Kaffe Fassett. We both loved the pattern, which he calls Facet. I never would have been brave enough to cut all those big beautiful prints into little strips if I had not seen this book first.
It took me a year and a half to collect the fabrics. There are more than 80 different fabrics: mostly Kaffe Fassett, with some Phillip Jacobs, Tula Pink, Amy Butler and coffee themed prints thrown in. It is a diamond shaped string quilt. Not hard to make at all and lots of fun! The quilt was LA quilted by Julie DeGrave of Pines and Needles Quilting in a wonderful swirly all over pattern and light peach thread. The first pic was while the quilt was on the design wall before I sewed on the zig zaggy border. And sewnsewer2 made the beautiful label for us. Those of you who are Princess Bride fans know what "As You Wish" means. My DD loves her quilt! |

Which is more beautiful: the quilt or the daughter?

Your quilt is drop-dead gorgeous! I have that book and love it. It inspired me to buy several more Kaffe Fassett books, because they are just full of beautiful pictures of quilts. Your quilt is just as beautiful as those in the book, a very high compliment indeed.

Thanks everybody! I can't take credit for the design elements of either Kaffe's quilt or of my DD...LOL.
I just followed the pictures in the Simple Shapes book as closely as I could because i thought his quilt was perfect. I was very lucky to be able to find Kaffe Fassett's wonderful border fabric - it really was the icing on the cake! fivepaws you are right - this would work great for a scrappy! i'm hoping to do another quilt from his books too...but like Wannabee said: how in the world do you make up your mind which one? You all are right... Kaffe Fassett's books are filled with gorgeous projects. |
What a wonderful quilt for such a beautiful girl Well done!!!!
