So sorry about the fire. The colors of the original quilt are beautiful. The blue is so close to the 'Tiffany' blue.
Wishing you well with the new quilt. |
Heartbreaking story. ((hugs)) for your mom. She will be so happy with what you are doing. for you !!!

I'm so sorry about your mother losing her house but I am glad you salvaged this. Whatever you do will be beautiful.

So sorry to hear about the fire. Your grandmother's work is wonderful. Good luck with your project. Your mom will be so excited.

Just my opinion. If your mother loved the design, then make her a new one. If she loved it because her grandmother made it, then I would try to just use what is left of the quilt. Make it into something that can be put in a large shadow box so she has it. Make it into 11 little quilts and one larger one to represent mom and all the children. Then in years to come, each child could receive part of the quilt. I know I would love to have even just a little part of my grandmothers quilts. Just a thought.

Your story just made me cry. So sorry for your mom's loss and amazed that you were able to rescue these pieces of your GM's quilt. I'm sorry I can't offer you much advice but is sounds like MTS is right on it, Bless her heart.
Good luck with this project and I look forward to your progress:-) |
Tisha, your story about your mother and your great grandmother's quilts is so touching! Such a sad thing to have happen. What you are trying to do is beautiful.
You said that your great grandmother's quilt was queen size and that you wanted to duplicate the quilting as much as possible. I would suggest that since this is such a large undertaking, that you create a much smaller quilt? I can't help with any other advice, but wanted to offer encouragement. You have done a marvelous job so far in picking fabrics that are very much in keeping with the original quilt. |
I WOULD NOT PUT ANY OTHER PARTS INTO THIS QUILT. IT WOULD NOT HAVE THE SAME MEMORY AS WHO HAD MADE IT TO BEGIN WITH. I WOULD ARANGE WHAT YOU HAVE AND FRAME IT BEHIND GLASS. GOOD LUCK.

Enjoy doing this quilt. Now that you have a plan you can get started and then let all of us see your finished product. Your mom will treasure it and the shadow box you are planning.
