DH on a roll

1 Attachment(s)
My DH enjoyed making his 1st wall hanging and decided to try his hand on making a Quilt. It's called Hobo Quilt, of course, it's about Trains which is his biggest passion. This is his 1st row so far... I'm impress how fast he is picking up on it with learning different techniques. But again, he is very skilled in building things like our home. Now he is taking over some of my space :-). Hope this project will keep him busy during the winter months but doubt it.

Awesome!!!!!!!!

Jackie Spencer 12-03-2013 08:05 AM

Wow! What a great start! Please keep us posted on his progress> Good job.

sandyfullmer 12-03-2013 08:20 AM

Great job! He might take over your whole space with this project.

Tartan 12-03-2013 08:21 AM

Awesome! The precision from his other hobbies obviously makes him a natural at quilting. Look out stash, another quilter in the house.:D

rebeljane 12-03-2013 08:25 AM

He is going great, can't wait to see it finished

MamaBear61 12-03-2013 08:27 AM

He is doing great work. He is seems to have skipped being a beginner quilter and moved right into knowing what he is doing.

juropat 12-03-2013 09:20 AM

When he finish with his top quilt, I will post it. Looking forward to seeing the results. As for quilting it??

PolkaBabe 12-03-2013 09:29 AM

That too is great. I do believe he is also having fun. Keep it up.

coachmatthewsvhs 12-03-2013 09:49 AM

look out!!!... you're about to loose your space.... nice row, I like it

2011wannaquilt 12-03-2013 10:04 AM

Wish I could get my DH interested in machine quilting. He has shown an interest in some of my rulers. Oh, well there is always next year.

Cris 12-03-2013 10:08 AM

Very nice! mark your territory before he takes over haha!!!

QuiltnNan 12-03-2013 12:15 PM

looks good so far

QUILTNMO 12-03-2013 12:36 PM

that is so nice!!!!

Jan in VA 12-03-2013 12:44 PM

UH, since he is so good with his hands, builds homes etc., start now helping him design a "new" space for both of you to quilt in!! I'd be counting myself so lucky if I were you, think of the possibilities!!

lynnie 12-03-2013 02:00 PM

he can help you, and now that he's involved, you will of course need a bigger sewing room and a better upgraded machine and of course more fabs for him to pick from. it's a win win.

djmat 12-03-2013 02:00 PM

Boy howdy, that is an awesome train! My grandson would love something like that, thanks for inspiring me!

Barb_MO 12-03-2013 02:01 PM

I think you hubby has secretly been taking quilting lessons.

QM 12-03-2013 02:08 PM

What fun! guaranteed to bring a smile.

piepatch 12-03-2013 02:15 PM

He is sure off to a good start! Please post the finished quilt when he is finished!

ube quilting 12-03-2013 02:53 PM

I would call him Mr. Awesome! What a nice beginning.
peace

Material Witness 12-04-2013 05:16 AM

This is good for him and good for you, too. You'll see. You might have to give up some fabric, but you'll gain in the long run.

sewmom 12-04-2013 05:21 AM

The only way that I would want my Dh to take up quilting is if it would result in obtaining a LA. Otherwise he needs to stay with his own hobbies. If he wants to do precision work somewhere, We have several bathrooms that need remodeling and finish work from our last remodeling project!

wolph33 12-04-2013 05:23 AM

so awesome.

Jordan 12-04-2013 05:39 AM

He did a great job. Now you have someone to sew and quilt with! My husband only knows what a fat quarter is and doesn't care to learn any more.

gabeway 12-04-2013 01:42 PM

He's chugging right along!

jbj137 12-04-2013 01:52 PM

Nice to have a buddy sewer/quilter.

twinkie 12-05-2013 04:14 AM

Great job.

Retired Fire Chief 12-05-2013 04:50 AM

Love his first row, it's great seeing such a masculine looking man sewing - I love it! Maybe he won't care if you use his tools!

cpcarolyn 12-05-2013 07:08 AM

Great job.

mjhaess 12-05-2013 07:25 AM

Great job......

grannydawg 12-05-2013 09:04 AM

WOW! What a great job! He must be a perfectionist (just great for first tries)! Keep up the good work and have fun creating! Hope you enjoy "sharing" your sewing space too!

oldtnquiltinglady 12-05-2013 10:29 AM

Someone above mentioned putting him to work with his first love (building) into a new sewing space for you, so that it will become an (ours) space, with the idea in mind of adding a long arm machine (can't be beat for quilting, even though FMQ is so popular); I share my sewing space with my son because he loves to run my long arm, and has mentioned a time or two for me to teach him how to piece a quilt. He loves when I have one of my pieced quilts lined up for him to quilt. And I don't mind at all letting him run my Gammill--I don't know if other brands are easier to learn or manage, but it has been a real learning thing for both of us getting used to this one--mine is a Classic with the stitch regulator on a 14' table. I keep thinking that I'll show off my sewing room soon, but haven't taken the time to learn to post pictures on the internet.

carolynjo 12-05-2013 10:42 AM

What a wonderful job he is doing! One of my best quilt students was a carpenter whose points always matched!

MargeD 12-05-2013 12:21 PM

He may have infringed upon your space, but this new "hobby" should keep him occupied over the winter.

twoxover 12-05-2013 12:42 PM

oh, I love it!!!!!

duckydo 12-05-2013 05:53 PM

Great job, I guess he does know that quilting is terminal sickness!

charhend 12-05-2013 08:08 PM

This guy is a real keeper! I wish my husband would take the challenge.

Grandma Peg 12-05-2013 08:10 PM

Very nice start to his quilt. I don't think I'd like sharing my sewing space and I'm not usually selfish.

whinnytoo 12-06-2013 05:02 AM

sometimes I wish my hubby would give quilting a try, but maybe its best if he doesnt LOL I love 'my space'
