Was there a specific pattern you followed?

The pattern is from an Eleanor Burns Quilt in a Day Book entitled, "Diamond Log Cabin" table cloth or tree skirt. It's a very easy pattern that makes up fairly quickly. This one only has 3 darks and 3 lights. I've made several with only the 3 lights and 3 darks and they fit the trees wonderfully. The pattern from Ms. Burns instructs you to use 4 light and 4 dark and makes quite a large tree skirt. I made one with 4 of each color for my 12' tree and it looks great. Good luck and post a picture when you've finished. You can get the book from Amazon or the Quilt in a Day site.

Easier than you can imagine. It's done as a strip quilting project and is nearly foolproof.

Really neat skirt. Your tree will certainly be dressed well.

That is gorgeous! Definitely my kind of tree skirt - I love strip piecing. What's the diameter of the hole in the center? We have a really large tree stand, since we typically get a 12' or taller tree. Thanks.

The opening is 7" but you can make it whatever size you want. We, too have a 12" tree. I made my skirt for a smaller tree and only used 3 light and 3 dark colors. The skirt that fits my tree has 4 lights and 4 darks. It fits very nicely and I made the opening in mine as big as a dinner plate.
