Did I goof? I'm quilting it upside down.

This is a scrappy log cabin variation twin sized top that I finished a couple years ago, and I'm finally quilting it. The top didn't particulary inspire me to a particular quilting motif, and the backing which I got on clearance was very pretty. So I decided to try something different and I basted the quilt upside down with the backing on the top. I'm outlining the roses carefully and in a good amount of detail so they will be seen on the front. I'm maybe a third finished, and it's using a good amount of thread. I hope I like it; not sure what the final outcome will be, but did anyone else ever do anything like that? I may be able to say it's reversible now that the back is embellished. I'm including some pictures of the whole quilt, and then some close-ups of the back with the roses where I'm quilting and the front where you should be able to see the roses on the brown material.

Looks great! Good problem solving!

I think it's a great idea! I have a book called "Quilting Back to Front" that is all about exactly what you're doing. I've been wanting to try it. I think your quilt will look wonderful!

|
I think it's a terrific idea- I may have to steal it!
|
Looks great! I've done that before. The only word of caution is to be sure to baste down your edges since the front will be smaller than the back. It's easy to catch the edge otherwise. :)

I have some large floral prints for backing too - now I will have the courage to try this. Love the way it looks on the front!

I bet others have done it before you. AND I am sure others will be doing it now that they saw how pretty yours is coming along.
