Didn't see my mistake

1 Attachment(s)
I made this quilt top quite some time ago, but today I was looking at pictures of quilts that I have made and as I looked at this one it took me a while to understand what was not quite right. The square in middle with the gingham is turned wrong. I couldn't believe that I had not noticed it before. Thankfully since it is not quilted yet I was able to take out just that one square and fix it right. First time I have ever done that dumb thing.

If it had been in the very center of the quilt , it would have made a nice/interesting accent!

It took me a moment to spot it, also. Sometimes photos really do help us to "see" things better.

Glad you spotted it in time to change it.

A whole top with that "variation" would also be nice.

Like the black and black and white accents with those colored squares and white background.

It helps me to take a picture of what I'm working on. For some reason, it's easier for me to spot problems or mistakes rather than just looking at it. I really like your quilt. I've been collecting some gingham and want to use it in a quilt someday. Glad you were able to fix the problem before quilting it.

Perhaps you are being to hard on yourself. It's a lovely quilt.

sval 09-23-2015 02:37 AM

I can't find the error. Help.

earthwalker 09-23-2015 02:42 AM

Well spotted....so glad it was an easy fix....it would do my head in if I found a mistake after quilting/binding.

smagruder 09-23-2015 02:47 AM

It took me a while but I would not have noticed it if you had not told me. Beautiful quilt.

QuiltnNan 09-23-2015 03:18 AM

good save. great quilt

Tartan 09-23-2015 03:24 AM

Ahhhh, they're kissing. :D Glad you caught it before quilting!

GingerK 09-23-2015 04:20 AM

Great use of gingham (of which I have been gifted more than I will ever use!!) It took me some time to find the problem too. So glad it will be a relatively easy fix.

Fotoula 09-23-2015 04:26 AM

Great quilt ! I love the colors!

dunster 09-23-2015 04:31 AM

Good save. Now get that gorgeous top quilted! It's too pretty to wait any longer.

LindaMRB 09-23-2015 04:31 AM

Funny how you can look at things MANY times and still not see a mistake. Nice quilt and I'm glad you were able to fix it before it became "permanent" !

PaperPrincess 09-23-2015 04:34 AM

I love this quilt! The gingham just makes it wonderful. It does look like the offending block was in the center, side to side, so it could have been a focal point!

ykreeves 09-23-2015 04:43 AM

Oh I even like the error. Lovely quilt!

It took me a bit to find it also. So glad you could fix it!

ManiacQuilter2 09-23-2015 04:50 AM

We have ALL made this type of mistake at least once in a lifetime. it is so easy to do.

BeckySt 09-23-2015 05:22 AM

I think your mistake was a good thing. I see a another quilt made with that mistake with the black and white reversed. Love your quilt

Plumtree 09-23-2015 05:26 AM

Glad it was easy fix but took me a minute to find it too. Beautiful quilt

shandyr1 09-23-2015 05:30 AM

I call it a design change.

Mariposa 09-23-2015 05:41 AM

Fun design and fabrics! Glad you caught it now... :)

toverly 09-23-2015 06:12 AM

I love that pattern, I have made it too. That mistake was quite easy to make. I made it several times myself. Glad you could correct it.

Yooper32 09-23-2015 07:23 AM

It took me a while, but finally found it and my assessment is, I would turn all the rest of them to that position, makes for a more interesting illusion to my way of thinking.

Homespun 09-23-2015 08:17 AM

It doesn't really stand out. I have a Summer Porch quilt I made with a block turned wrong and it is already quilted! OH well,....

nativetexan 09-23-2015 08:27 AM

I don't know, as long as it took me to find it, I'd leave it. I found it interesting that my eyes just could not see it!!

AllyStitches 09-23-2015 08:42 AM

Isn't it funny how you can look at something, and just have this "feeling" that something is wrong, but can't for the life of you find it! Until you do, and then you can't un-see it! I love this quilt, though. I think the black gingham was a perfect choice!

If that's your first mistake you're doing pretty good. I teach quilting classes now and I always tell my students all the mistakes I've made so they will be able to miss making the same ones. I think I've made them all over the years.

I love to see gingham coming back.... and I hear calico will be back soon as well. I think I still have some of both.

Jeanne S 09-23-2015 09:23 AM

Took me a while to find it too! Love the black and whites mixed with brights---that is what I have been making lately too!

tessagin 09-23-2015 10:10 AM

Great looking quilt and took me a moment. I actually got up out of my chair walked out of the room back in again then found it. LOL! Fresh (2nd and 3rd pairs) of eyes help a lot.

JuneBillie 09-23-2015 10:49 AM

Quilt is so pretty. Call me silly, but I would have just started a new quilt line called "conversation quilts." lol....

lynnie 09-23-2015 11:49 AM

Beautiful quilt. I really had to look for it. it was meant to be that way.

judy363905 09-23-2015 11:58 AM

That is so easy to do...I took take photos and take a last look before making the sandwich. Just this weekend I was guilty of switch two blocks ...when I worked on quilt the placement of the colors were so important to me..then I must have flip blocks as sew top seams instead of bottom seams...thus making the block in wring place. Luckily the were outside blocks so easy fix.

Glad you also found you problem :)

Wow, I really had to look at it to see the mistake. If it was mine, it would already be quilted before I found the mistake.

Katiedid2 09-23-2015 12:29 PM

It is very pretty

greaterexp 09-23-2015 05:27 PM

I doubt that I would ever have noticed! It's a really lovely quilt!

Judith1005 09-23-2015 06:15 PM

What a pretty quilt. Great catch on your part. Can't wait to see how you quilt it.

daisydebby 09-23-2015 06:37 PM

Glad you caught your mistake. The quilt is REALLY attractive:) Would you mind telling us the name/designer? Thanks.

Grandma Peg 09-23-2015 08:09 PM

It took me awhile to find it. Lovely quilt.

zozee 09-23-2015 08:15 PM

Man, I had to look and look and LOOK again to see what you're talking about. Glad for your own peace of mind you spotted it now, but truly I would not have noticed had you not pointed it out. It's actually kind of a cool layout with it turned that way, but if it's the ONLY block like that, I can see how it'd bug you.
