Different Style Disappearing Nine Patch

I picked this up from a client the other day and asked what pattern it was and she said it was her own. Well when she went to describe how to make scrappy blocks, I had a dumb blond moment. So she drew it on a napkin for me and it still took me a couple times to understand what she was saying. I plan to make one one day. I did feathers and leaves freehand in this quilt. The last two pictures are of back, the quilt is for her daughter who loves Audrey Hepburn. Once again thanks for looking

Nice freehand work! Pretty quilt too. I've made D9P's but this is different than any I've seen. You'll have to consider making a tute for us when you make this pattern so we can see how it's done.

What a beautiful quilt. Love the pattern, colors and fabrics used. Your quilting made it just perfect.

Super quilt and quilting!

CanoePam 06-15-2014 05:15 AM

I am not always great at telling how patterns go together. Did she slice the sides and top of the 9 patch, leaving the center up disturbed?

Murphy1 06-15-2014 07:51 AM

Fascinating, I would love visual directions too. It is lovely and your quilting really enhances it. Thanks for sharing.

Emmy Sue 06-15-2014 08:02 AM

Yes she sliced 2 1/2 inches off each side then took 2 1/2 inches off top and bottom. Then you move pieces to the other blocks.

Thanks for all the kind comments to all.

I love the back!(the front too :D) very intrigued with her block. What size single block did she start with?

Evie 06-15-2014 09:31 PM

I saved this tute from a couple of years ago. This site has some great tutorials.

She used charm packs so the beginning block would have 14".

Great quilt and quilting!

Thank you for posting, I seen it on pinterest and never pinned it because I knew I could remember how to make it. I won't be making it any time soon as I have to many projects already started.

Some people have all the creativity! Your quilting is fantastic. The pattern is terrific. I see others have requested a pictorial sketch....that would be wonderful if you have time :-)

MarthaT 06-16-2014 06:31 AM

I tried a couple blocks like that a while back, and was not impressed. But this quilt looks great! Guess the stars in the sashing make it all come together.
