From disaster to woman cave/sewing room
7 Attachment(s)
On August 1, of 2011, we had a high wind and rain storm go through our small town, and it snapped the top half off of an evergreen, that was close to our house, landing it on the roof of an addition, cracking the rafters, and making the 2 rooms, office and front room, unusable. We found a contractor that late in the season, to rebuild the roof, and I have finally gotten back into the office and we converted the front room to a woman cave/sewing room.
This picture is of the evergreen that snapped. Another picture of the tree from the north side. This next picture shows the stained glass window in the front room, and the suspended ceiling hanging suspended. lol Sorry about that, but my picture was taken before I adjusted my pic size, so no picture, so on to the rest. This first picture shows the closet where I have storage units and fabric and the china cabinet holds smaller pieces of fabric, like fat quarters, etc. This next pic is where I do my cutting, have the TV, and all the drawers are full of my projects. The next one is sewing central, with the blue one being a Bel Aire of my Mom's, also have a kenmore and a bernina, and all machines are used. I made an ironing board that rests between the 2 desks, and is easily used from whatever machine I am using. The next one is my easy chair, where I do my hand quilting, also showing my design wall, with some of my DJ blocks and part of a dresden plate quilt. And the last one is back to my little closet with storage units and the door coming into the room. Hope you have enjoyed my little tour, because, believe me, I am really enjoying my woman cave/sewing room. |

So sorry about the damage to your home. Your 'cave' is great, love that comfy looking desk chair.
The Dresden is coming along beautifully. What a nice "different" take on an old favorite pattern. You have turned lemons into lemonade in your new cave! Sorry for the tragic circumstances - but look at what you have gained! Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy it.
Sorry about the house, but you have a nice sewing cave. I love that tie/shirt quilt that you have hanging up on the one wall. It makes for a great way to use up old ties.
Your woman cave is beautiful. Enjoy.
That is a wonderful space! Congratulations on turning lemons into lemonade. Enjoy!

Nevermind every cloud having a silver lining, yours was pure gold. The room is a joy and delight on the eye so I can just imagine how happy you must be working there. Enjoy eery second!

Sometimes it takes a disaster to do the things you really want to do. So glad you have your own sewing space organized the way you want it to be.
Such wonderful planning you made while waiting for restoration of the building. Every thing thought out carefully and placed where it is best used. Glad you have such a wonderful space to enjoy your quilting....and a sofa for hubby to relax when taxing work needs a break.

with a microwave and refrigerator I wouldn't leave except to go to the bathroom
What a wonderful site a year makes!!! I sit here in envy as I have an 8x8 room.
Great room - cheery yellow walls, and lots of storage space are nice! Great idea about the ironing area -- I'm going to have to come up with something like that for my quilt room. Love the idea of pressing as you sit at the machine. Isn't this site absolutely wonderful for new ideas and enjoying others talents and creativity??
There is always a silver lining!! Love your 'woman cave'...also, I love the tie quilt hanging on the wall. So cute.
Nice space and I LOVE your bow tie/shirt & tie quilt. I made a similar one for the principal at my kids grammar school years ago. He collects ties and loved the quilt.
I love your new large space! You are gonna enjoy every minute you can spend in it!
