This was from the pattern by Lockwood designs and is my first bargello. Not sure yet if it will also be my last! I had lots of strip sets left over so I used some of them in the border - an idea I got from a lady on here. I can't remember her name but she has a very bright and beautiful bargello as her avatar and used some leftovers from that in the border of another quilt she posted. :-D
Mine is 70" x 66". Now I need some ideas for the quilting - I don't want to meander all over it, I'd rather come up with something to enhance the pattern. Perhaps feathers in the red and blue sections? Not sure yet! Thanks to all those who encouraged me over on my Bargello WIP thread as well! :-D :-D :-D |
Oh my that's a stunning quilt
That is absolutely gorgeous! I like your thought of enhancing the design with the feathers in the quilting.
Beautiful - love the deep colors!
Ow, WOW!!! That is one awesome bargello. I love the colors you picked.

You can quilt soft lines following the flow of the design. I've done with all my bargellos. You just go diagonal across each square / rectangle following each color "line" . I used a free motion foot to keep the lines soft. Some areas you have to just follow the flow of the design rather than go square to square . I used monofilament thread so the quilting is more subtle but it really softens the design and looks great. I've done three like that. All were gifts or I'd attach a picture.
I guess it depends on what you like and how comfortable you are with quilting. It also depends on how much quilting you want. I tend to be a minimalist when it comes to a pattern like this. There's so much going on with color and movement already. LOVE your quilt. Wonderful work. |
Wow! Beautiful. I love all those rich colors in it. Looks like all batiks!
Beautiful, Just love your colors...
very nice
oh wow that looks hard! Great job though!
I think the colors vibrate. They make me want to go dancing. I'd have to think about the quilting, too. No ideas here.
How wonderful! You've done well.

It's beautiful - I love your colors!
I've quilted a few bargellos for customers - I usually try to divide the quilt up into different sections, then put various fills in each, or sometimes diagonal lines to highlight certain sections. Here's a photo of one bargello I did. You can see another example on my blog, scroll down to the end of the post - if you click the photo it will open a larger version. http://andicrafts.wordpress.com/2010...own-two-to-go/ |
Absolutely Beautiful!!

It looks great k!! I saw the WIP thread while I was at work, so couldn't comment, but am home now. Did you do this with the tube method? That is the big drawback for me. I am so against unnecessary or "elective" unsewing, that the only way I would do a bargello is if it were strip pieced, like BarbMo's is. But another winner from our k3n!!
Andi, your quilting is beautiful!!
That's beautiful Kathryn! And the strips in the borders look so good, I like that border fabric too.
beautiful quilt

Beautiful.

Outstanding!
Wow what a gorgeous quilt
Awesome job! No ideas on the quilting though.
Wow! Nice. Job
Mm nice. I do like the way the pattern flows out into the border, so it's floating yet not...
Love the pieced border strip, too, I've been debating with myself whether to use one in the pair of quilts I'm making for my parents at the moment... I think you've convinced me that yes! :D Re quilting, I love Andi's advice to create segments. So much easier on the shortarm! I'd tend to make some feathers first (or perhaps slightly more flamey, spiky shapes instead of the rounded hooks - because to me this quilt has a lot of fire!). For instance, feathers along the long blue X, with a multi-layered flame for each pink shape. Then I'd look afterwards how to fill in the other segments. Making it up as I go along again, lol... |
Absolutely stunning
Oh my gosh... oh my gosh...oh my gosh.... gorgeous. Masterpiece. So glad we nagged. :D
Love it!!!
Thank you so much everyone! And keep those quilting ideas coming - I'm formulating a plan that kind of includes them all! (Ta Salmon!) :D
That is amazing
Beautiful Kathryn! I like the idea of flames in the "hot strips", and feathers in the "X" This is a wonderful piece. Glad we could "help"!
