Your work is amazing, Where you a famous quilter in another life? Where you born with a needle and thread? What is your secret or you nitch? I'm kidding with you. I just love your work and your detail.

On my fathers side, my grandmother and her father before her were all tailors. As a young child I remember playing around her big old sewing machine and finding a lump of brown wax....when I asked what it was my grandad told me it was ear wax!!!! Put me off sewing for years lol!!

My grandmother, right up until she died at 93 was still sewing including laundering and repairing the local football teams kit every week!! She mainly made wedding dresses,and was a very fine tailoress, but sadly we moved away when I was five and I only used to see her once a year, I was only thinking the other day, that she would be really proud to see me stitching away. I have vivid memories of her 'stash' cupboard in her bedroom that she used go through every visit I made when I grew up, she was always so generous.

I have always enjoyed 'making things' I used to do alot of knitting for my boys and have dabbled abit in cross stitch but seem to have found my 'niche' in patchwork and quilting. I haven't had any training, just read alot on the net and make it up as I go along!!

You can bet that grandmother IS soooo very proud!!!

Ah, Izy. I love your quilting. Love the fact that you pitched right in to do it by machine! I have one I'm working on that has carousel animals on it. I was thinking about machine stitching cause it would be easier and FASTER! But I chickened out and did them by hand. :( The animals are in a border like fabric so they are lined up one on top of the other. So far I have them quilted every other one. The thought of quilting around each and every one was daunting. Who knows though I might change my mind and do them all. :D I do have another 10 yds or so of the fabric so I'm thinking of making a smaller quilt to try the machine. Can you use regular all purpose thread or do you have to have special machine quilting threat? I know the process but knowing and doing are too different animals. :lol: :lol:

In my quilt I am using a random YLI machine quilting thread but boy did I have problems with it fraying.....until one of our leaders in the group advised me to use an embroidery needle in the machine, this having a large hole and being finer doesn't create as much friction on the thread as it passes through the needle and it has been much better. :-) :-)

Is your applique machine, or by hand? I'd also like to know about your celtic flower, the leaves look like,applique on top of applique, Is that the technique you used for the 2 shaded leaves. The lighter green on the darker green?
