I recently started using coupons again, and started back with a box about the size of a check file with all the cardboard spacers, neatly organized and was ready to shop. I kept watching the "Extreme Couponing" on TV and seems like everyone but me had a binder with coupons. Hmmm, I did have a bunch of baseball card pages and a few binders that I hadn't gotten around to organizing yet. I figured the baseball cards had been in boxes this long, what's a bit longer? lol So, revamp on the coupon organizing. But gee, it's so PLAIN! And actually hard to carry - I had a simple tote that I was putting it in and taking it out of (boy, that got old quick) so I decided it should have handles... and pizzazz... and pockets.... and maybe I could even secure it to some grocery carts..... And so, "Here Lizard, Lizard" is born!

Before - so unoriginal

After - I like!

Velcro straps for securing to buggies

With it on the binder - action shot, lol

Great Idea!! I've just started couponing but this looks like it will make it easy to travel with. Will make me one in the near future.

kolacequeen 05-21-2011 02:46 PM

You will be the envy of all the shoppers. Very nice.

hopetoquilt 05-21-2011 03:04 PM

great idea for those who coupon.

cny_sewer39 05-21-2011 03:52 PM

What a great idea. I will have to figure out how to make me one. I use the old fashion coupon box.

Have a blessed day.

Mine's not nearly as colorful as yours, and it's now been around the block a few times, too...

(And don't mind the messy coupons on top - the picture is from a day a couple months back where I had blogged about donating my expired coupons to military families overseas.)

Maribeth 05-21-2011 04:03 PM

That is such a neat idea. Thanks for sharing.

normasews 05-21-2011 04:18 PM

Wow, that's an awesome idea. I use a binder with sheet protectors for patterns I pull out of magazines. It works great and don't have to keep the entire magazine. I just keep what I want.

Wendys Quilts 05-21-2011 04:19 PM

Oh oh oh!!!!! I am so a couponer!!!! And I love your notebook. Great idea! I showed my dh and he said he knows what I'm making next lol. I have sheet protectors that I sewed into four sections, instead of buying baseball card sheets. they work great for me :)

gunny148 05-21-2011 04:22 PM

What a great idea

Janie Q 05-21-2011 04:22 PM

Wow I love your idea of velcro strips to attach to buggy. Great idea!

978gray 05-21-2011 04:28 PM

Great idea. Love it.

Thank you. Now if all buggies were the same size (sigh). I haven't tried it yet on the full size, like at Kroger, but it should work great since that was what I designed it for. On the smallish ones at Family Dollar, it doesn't work as well. Maybe I can come up with some sort of mini table that fits between the buggy handle and top of basket. Hmmm... I could make some sort of sling that attaches to each that would give me a resting area for the binder. Might have to try that. It's so annoying when you can't get it to lay without sliding and you're trying to flip pages. I'll post again if I can get something worked out....

How about doing this with the child safety strap then sitting the binder on top of it?

Good idea! I can't remember if the smaller carts had those, but if they do, that should work. I think I'll still make some straps with velcro, for those times when I don't have child straps available. They'll tuck nicely in the back of the binder until I need them.

deedum 05-21-2011 06:24 PM

How neat! Fabulous idea! Just thinking I need to get back into couponing! Think of the money I can save!

skydiver70 05-21-2011 06:35 PM

What a great idea. I need to do that as I am a coupon freak.

shemace2901 05-21-2011 06:38 PM

wonderfully creative, love the handles, well done

nabobw 05-22-2011 04:59 AM

cute

b.zang 05-22-2011 05:09 AM

Well, now you're all set!
Why don't you go on that TV show so we can watch the binder in use? You'd add a whole new dimension.

Very cute Idea!

sewmorethings 05-22-2011 05:18 AM

Very creative, my sister would love one of those. Good job are you going to do a tute on this site?

carolknows 05-22-2011 06:24 AM

My sister has become a super couponer and is teaching me the tricks of the trade(BOY, I had no idea!) She saves so much money. I can't wait to make her one of these. I just sent her a box of baseball card holders to keep the coupons in. There six po areckets on each side of each page

carolknows 05-22-2011 06:28 AM

oops! There are six pockets on each side of each page. It's easy to see them. "the2buds" is where I order these plastic holders.

Stitcherbee09 05-22-2011 06:34 AM

Saw a lady in Krogers the other day and she had something like this across her purse where little ones sit. At first I thought she was taking inventory, but no, she was sorting her coupons. I guess she was taking inventory in a way....of her cart....Love the idea, will have to work on it.

toadmomma 05-22-2011 06:39 AM

Love the idea, will have to make one, just started a couple of mo. ago couponding love it. Husband said waist of time, but now brings me coupons and adds home since i got hhis excedrin for 99cents a box. Made a beliver out of him, though I do not empty shelves and only buy what I or some one I know uses. I will check out your blog, as i end up with expired coupons, and didnt know someone could use them thanks again DEB

reginalovesfabric 05-22-2011 12:29 PM

I coupon and watch the show, so those are baseball insets for cards. I wondered what that was. They appear to have big books, like the kind that I've bought for scrapping, but would like to see one.
Good luck, I'll never be as good as they are. But anything saved now days is a good thing.

javin22 05-22-2011 12:30 PM

Great Idea. I coupon but I don't have that many coupons to organize.

reginalovesfabric 05-22-2011 12:31 PM

what a great idea, I'll try that since the baseball card area to me is not so big, especially if you have a lot of the same coupon

debp33 05-22-2011 01:07 PM

If you are a couponer and have expired coupons, did you know that overseas military members can use expired coupons up to six months past their expiration date?

More info here:

I only recently heard about this and think that's a great thing to do with my coupons as they expire. Also, the site is great for gathering online coupons as well. I hadn't seen it before. She has a great online coupons database. Thanks so much, made a shortcut to her site as I'll be visiting often!

Ziva 05-22-2011 04:27 PM

I love this lizard fabric.. Can you please let me kknow what is the name of the fabric and where I can purchase it? Thanks.

Love the binder cover!!

vwquilting 05-22-2011 04:30 PM

You should sell them on qvc

juneayerza 05-22-2011 05:10 PM

Is there any chance you could do a tutorial for this binder's cover? I'm not really adapt at sewing and need instructions for almost everything I do, so I would very much appreciate it if you would do a tutorial.

gramquilter2 05-22-2011 05:15 PM

Neat idea for coupon users.

Glenda TX 05-22-2011 11:42 PM

Too cute! I bet you get compliments all the time at the grocery stores. Great idea!! Makes me want to start using coupons.

livenlearn124 05-23-2011 04:17 AM

This question is for those that are couponers... what is the best way to organize your coupons in the folder?
By catagory, or brand, expiration date?

I've not quite got the hang of it yet, but am making babysteps. Any tips would be appreciated.
