maybe something to do with knitting or crocheting when making different stitches. Sure will be waiting for an answer to this one.

too funny!!

Lindsey 07-21-2011 03:35 AM

I woulda thought it was a tie holder. The ties slip between the white thingies.

didi 07-21-2011 03:36 AM

Have no clue, but like some of the answers.

wyldhare17 07-21-2011 03:40 AM

i think yonnika is correct..look at the slide that may move towards the 2 lil balls to hold a scarf..perfect!

ontheriver 07-21-2011 04:12 AM

Does each one come off the ring? I'm thinking some type of row markers for knitting or something like that.

michelehuston 07-21-2011 04:26 AM

Uh...no idea..but can't wait to find out!!

dixiechunk 07-21-2011 04:28 AM

Looks kinda kinky to me.

dixiechunk 07-21-2011 04:30 AM

Eeewww, I don't think I'd like Manhattan very much.

Tammy - where did you see this, or how did you happen to come across it?

quiltymom 07-21-2011 05:05 AM

Nope got me stumped!!!

4girlsmimi 07-21-2011 05:12 AM

I have got such a kick out of everyone's guesses on this. You ladies are a hoot! Thanks for the good laugh to start my day.

I have no idea what this is or what it is for, but I love the "wind chime" for your sewing machine. Regardless of what it truly is, that's what I'd use it for!

I think it used to count rows on crochet.

Riverton Quilter 07-21-2011 05:49 AM

I think it's used in making bobbin lace. Not sure how, but saw a demo recently and they used all sorts of items that looks like this.

Sallyflymi 07-21-2011 05:49 AM

Don't have a clue. Going to watch this one.

Amythyst02 07-21-2011 05:54 AM

I have no clue here, but I have to admit this is one great thread to read early in the morning, certainly does give you alot of laughs!!

sorry I clicked twice.

alwayslearning 07-21-2011 06:13 AM

I do not know what it is, but have a suggestion for how to use it if you can get the hanging things off: ruler hanger for a quilter!

Exactly what I was thinking. Which was why I asked for a picture of the balls/dangles as I wanted to see if the little balls were that way inclined!

You know, I think she makes the most sense.

Exactly what I was about to say...

oldcottontop 07-21-2011 07:44 AM

I got the answer.......it's a dingleebobber.... :P

In truth???? it's a hangamajigger.....

What a hoot.....but have no clue

hexagonquilter 07-21-2011 07:47 AM

Are the white dangly things tight together? if so, I would use it to hang my rulers with. Slide the hole to hang the ruler up with between the two white balls on one hanger. If it holds fast enough I would keep going. I got a large ring with a hanger on it to hold mine but it is a pain.

garysgal 07-21-2011 08:03 AM

I googled images of every thing that was suggested and the picture you have doesn't come up. It appears it isn't a dental tool, lace maker, crochet counter, scarf holder, tie holder, etc., so it must be a "thingamajig" like was suggested. If you ever find out what it is please let us know. (It would be funny if it turns out to be a decoration from something crazy like a car visor!)

I have an offical thingamaboob... thats not it.

skavanau 07-21-2011 08:25 AM

I sent the picture to Nancys Notions . If she gets back to me I will post...

Quiltbeagle 07-21-2011 08:37 AM

Maybe it was a dental color matcher thingee that was repurposed by an quilter for use as a bobbin holder? You know how us quilters love to repurpose stuff. LOL, just kidding. I'm leaning toward it being a scarf holder. If not that, it's just gotta be a thing-a-ma-jig.

fran624 07-21-2011 08:39 AM

stumped but would like to know

wannaquilt1 07-21-2011 08:41 AM

it looks to me like stitch holders for knitting. each one can come off and you put it in bewteen your stitches on the needles. I have never seen any like this before though.

I'm sold. My mom's cousin from Chicago had one like this, and that's what she used it for. I've seen many, many dental shade guides, but none in a "keyring" style, and these little balls aren't different shades (from what I can tell in the picture, anyway.)

Jingle 07-21-2011 08:52 AM

I have no clue, other than what a Dentist uses to match color of teeth.
