Dogs at the Beach quilt: Finished!

1 Attachment(s)
Thanks to all who made suggestions for the borders of this little quilt.

I decided against the narrow red after auditioning it, and against the blue entirely. I wanted a dark brown as someone here suggested but couldn't find a solid that matched so went with the dark mottled brown, same as the window "facing". As much as I thought it needed more color, I'm pleased with the final result. What do you think?

Love the "look". perfect finish for a really fun quilt!

SouthPStitches 02-09-2013 10:51 AM

I love your little quilt and the name is perfect! You made the color choice that was right for you. If you had gone with something you weren't crazy about, that's all you would have noticed and it would have taken the satisfaction out of the project. Well done!

QuiltnNan 02-09-2013 11:01 AM

nicely done

Correction: Well, obviously, this quilt is not "finished". I meant to say the top is finished. I'm thinking of backing and binding it with the dalmatian type print suggested here. Who knows when I'll get it quilted since I've only ever quilted smaller things such as wallhangings, mug rugs, etc. on my DSM. But, I did get a new Brother Innov'is NX450Q for Christmas, so anything's possible.....(when/if I learn how to use it!)

MamaBear61 02-09-2013 11:32 AM

That is super cute!

Very novel. I think that the fabric that you went with is the right choice. Well done.

I LOVE it! I saved the pics in the first post.....wish this one would enlarge to see it better. I want to do an attic window quilt and am saving all examples I can find. I love the dog fabric, can't remember if you told us what it was? I think you made the right decisions about the red and blue.

That is just the cutest! Thanks for sharing and great choices on the fabric colors.

I love it! We have some of that cute doggy beach fabric too. My daughter just loved that fabric. We purchased some red/white stripe to go with it, although we haven't picked out a pattern yet. I love how you used the browns and tans with it, though! It makes the dogs stand out!! We may have to reconsider our coordinating fabric choices!

A great quilt! The dogs are so cute, and your work is very nice.

It looks like my gang there. hehe. Very nice.

I think it looks great! What color is the binding to be? If it were mine, I might take the opportunity to bring in a tiny touch of the red, just 1/4 inch or even less, right before applying the binding. I call it a flat welt, and I've heard it called a flange (for some reason I dislike that term...).

Thanks for your comments! The fabric is actually called "Dogs at the Beach". I got it at Jo-Ann's before Christmas and then bought more (after I decided to do an attic windows) late in January. They may still have it.

Thanks! Someone here suggested previously that I might use a dalmation print and I'm considering that for the back and the binding.....I'd just cut the backing big enough to bring over as binding. Still not sure, though; I would like to work some red in there somehow. Another poster said they bought red & white stripe to go with this fabric and that might work as binding. I didn't like the red that I first considered for a narrow border next to the brown; it just looked muddy. But a red&white stripe would probably be okay.

It's fabulous!! I used that same material and made a rag lap quilt for our Vet. She loved it. I backed it with red with black pawprints. They also make that fabric with cats.

JaneAustenFan 02-17-2013 01:37 PM

I love this quilt!! The fabric is just great. Where did you get the dog print fabric and the pattern from? - Actually just answered my own question about the fabric by reading the thread. How about the pattern?
