Doing the happy dance after a Church Rummage Sale!!
1 Attachment(s)
Today was the annual Rummage sale run by a local church. I got there 10 minutes after it opened and made a beeline for the Craft room. They had 3 grocery store paper bags full of fabrics for $2 each. I asked if it was ok if I peeked in the bags to see what they contain and they said I could empty the bags and make bags for myself with just what I wanted. They even had a rocking chair for me to sit in while I did this! OMG!! I made up close to 2 bags of just cottons and left the poly for someone else. I paid the full $2 per bag even though they weren't totally full. I even found a large quantity of an unbleached looking cotton fabric for $1 more. All told I got all the fabric you see below for $5. Now I have to get sewing!

That's awesome wish I could find a score of fabric like that

good find..................
Just remembered I also paid $1 admission to the sale. So that changes the whole pricing structure of the sale. Now I'm not sure I got a good deal - after all I paid a whopping $6 for this fabric. :D
Just kidding! Still doing the happy dance. I think it will last all day, maybe all weekend. |
congratulations

I just love finding deals like that. Can't wait for garage sale season here!
I am so jealous. I never find such bargains.
What fun! You made quite a haul......will these be used for "charity" quilts or what? Be sure to share......:)
What an awesome find. Congratulations.

I just love Church Rummage Sales. I always find scads of fabrics and a machine or two. My MIL took me to my first one -we had to call my DH to bring the truck to get the rest of our goodies.I took a friend to her first one last year and I told her we should take her truck but she said she wasn't going to buy much. She ended up taking my car home to get her truck and a couple boys to help load it. She bought a big old oak desk for $25 that we seen in an antique store for $1200.

Good haul. I love the red!
Awesome find, love when that happens!
Love a good bargain !! Very nice haul !
great buy!
Congratulations. That white fabric with the big polka dots could be your focus fabric to bring the rest together. You need a pattern that leaves a fairly big piece of that in every block, a center square, maybe.
Great find and happy sewing.
such a buy, you did good
Lucky you! Congratulations on the find. Enjoy.
What a great buy. Hope you had fun !!
lucky you! that's a great variety of fabric.
Way to go!!! Congrats!!
Great deal. Love a great bargain. Can only imagine what it would cost at the fabric store.

Here's an update for you folks. I had a blast sorting though the fabrics. I had to overhaul my entire storage system to make it fit but that's ok, I'm not complaining! It was fun plus it's a way better system now. I don't have a ton of fabrics so it wasn't an overwhelming job.
Before I started putting the new fabric away, I measured the fabric in just one of the two bags. It was over 30 yards! So I estimate that I got about 60 yards of fabric in the 2 bags - Yipes!! In my picture, there is an off white fabric in the top left. That's an unbleached muslin and that piece alone was over 9 yards. There is a red fabric in the center that was over 4 yards. There were lots of nice sized pieces. To answer wendiq's question - I don't know yet what I'll make. I'm still in awe of what I got! I already make quilts for a charity which provides us with the fabric. We have a ton which was donated, so I think I'll keep this haul for myself. I love dreaming of the possibilities of what I can make...... |
