From Don-isewman-I've done it again
3 Attachment(s)
Just to let you know, I've done it again. I wont go into a long story. My grdaughter from out east is here, for a week. My x-wife and her husband from florida is here also. I will let yous know. We are still friends. No friction between us. Anyhow, Ed-her husband, are cleaning out the house his parents lived in. They come across 10 1920's quilt blocks. Ask me if can do anything with them. I was told they belonged to his great grdmother.. After buying t-shirt stablizer, I did get something figured out. Those blocks were a disaster. Out of sq, and everythings else you can imagine. This is what I came out with. And some of the hand stitching. They said they will pay me $250.00 to do what, I can and hand quilt it also Take care everyone Don-isewmanEach block has a family's name

I follow all your entries to this board and think your work is phenomenal. You must really be awed at being able to touch such history...my dad was born in 1921. Thanks for sharing./lissa

That's wonderful! Good of you to do that for them- old blocks should be treasured, no matter how cockeyed they seem to be. And your quilts always turn out fabulous!

very nice. the blocks are beautiful. you did a fantastic job with them.
Don, beautiful work.!!!!!!!!!! Who cares if the squares aren't square, its the thought that counts. Keep up the
great work you always do. |
Beautiful work Don. This is a labor of love because $250 probably works out to $.50 per hour for all the work you have into this and will have into it by the time you are done. I think you should keep track of your hours and let the ex and her hubs know so they have a better idea of the value of the work you are doing. Please make sure you post a picture when you are done.
Good that you are saving it! You will earn the money for sure!
Wow, what a treasure to find, then to have you finish it! Thats cause they know what kind of work you do, and they wanted it done right!

It looks like it's on it's way to another beauty when it's done. I don't know how you keep your fingers from getting sore with all the hand quilting you do. I learned to hand quilt from my mother and grandmother, but my fingertips used to get so raw I don't even hand quilt baby quilts. I definitely appreciate those of you who do it.
You mention using tshirt stablizer. Tell me why you used that. Is it to strengthen the older fabrics? Is it difficult to hand quilt through? This is a new idea to me. Love working on those old treasures myself and knowing that my hands are where another placed stitches.
Anxious to see the finished project. Looks like it is going to be fantastic as all of your work is.
Nice work as usual. Enjoy the process.
Lovely old quilt. It is worthy of your time and you are doing a beautiful job on it. Your stitches are lovely too. Keep up the good work and please be sure to send us a photo of your finished project. They will be lucky to have it and they are lucky to have you.
