That's a Friendship Braid quilt. Jenny Doan has two videos on making them.

And another work of art by Don. Very nice, but I can see how the repetition would become tiresome.

Debbie Caffery does a similar pattern using strips.......

Beautiful Don! Sometimes once is enough! Now you can say you did it!

I'd love to make one. If you would send me one of the templates.

Looks like Eleanore Burns's Braid in a Day quilt. I have started one and am not really thrilled with the "journey"

I got one of those wedges (as you call it ) on an Eleanor Burns Braid pattern. I have made several table runners and am in the process of making a quilt just like yours. I did not use the wedge at all, I just cut my strips and then pieced. Much easier. Maybe someday, I will use the wedge for something else.

Enjoy arranging the pieces so the colors match up. You could cut the triangle off and make a court house square or some kind of quilt block that takes rectangles and triangles like flying geese.

I think your quilt is pretty and will really look nice when you quilt it. I made one like this from Eleanor Burns. I think it's called Friendship Braid. I enjoyed making it, but I am new and not as advanced as you are. I do think it makes a nice looking quilt. And I really love the French Braid that fades from one color tone to another. I always enjoy seeing your work. Thanks for sharing.

Cut the edges off the wedges and make squares out of them. Just a thought.

Painiacs 07-04-2013 06:14 PM

Always wanted to try that pattern! Was it too repititiouss?

Your quilt is lovely as usual. It is also known as "Pioneer Braid". Much easier to just start with a triangle, sew on your strips and then cut the edges. This also makes a lovely border. Keep up the good work!!

I like your quilt very much, it looks like a neat little tool, I hope that you would reconsider and do one in warm fall colors, you did a wonderful job.

I saw a video that used a binding tool to cut jelly rolls into strips and was going to do that, until my quilting teacher said that the edges would all be bias and hard to handle. The tool you show looks like the same issue. I am making a king sized braided quilt, and did not use the tool - easy to put together.
