From Don-isewman-A quilt I'll never do again

Here is a few pictures, of a quilt top. That I WILL NEVER DO AGAIN. The reason, Im giving, is your useing the same template over and over, etc, etc. All I can tell you is a lady at the inspirations quilt shop in Hills, Iowa. Came to our meeting last month, and passed out these plastic wedges, to everyone, at the meeting that night. I sat down, and started cutting out. I bet I have at least 100, that will never get used. I'll pass them on to somebody. As for a name for this quilt, I'll call it wedge quilt. Here is the picture of the wedge. Picture of the quilt, useing that wedge.A close up view of the wedge pattern.

It is a lovely quilt and beautifully scrappy.

StephT 07-02-2013 10:47 AM

wow..I do like it. Why don't you sew the 100 you have together and use it on the back of the quilt.

jbening 07-02-2013 10:48 AM

I know what you mean about the repetition. But hang on to the leftovers, they might be used as a border on another quilt, or table runners or baby or doll quilts. Thanks for sharing all your beautiful quilts.

Very pretty! Love the border fabrics too.

Very stunning and eye catching!!!

beateannkeith 07-02-2013 01:19 PM

Love your quilt. I didn't make it to the meeting that they handed out the template, because our son was in intensive care for 14 days. Darn.

serenitybygrace 07-02-2013 01:21 PM

Turned out to be a very pretty quilt. I can only imagine cutting all those pieces with a template. That's not for me either.

Challys 07-02-2013 01:45 PM

Looks like the "tool" that comes with the Eleanor Burns Braid in a Day pattern. I loved making that one!

Floralfab 07-02-2013 01:48 PM

I give you a lot of credit for cutting 100 out. Your scrappy quilt is great! You are a patient man.

redquilter 07-02-2013 02:15 PM

It looks really great. You always turn out a winner!

QuiltnNan 07-02-2013 03:47 PM

I think your quilt is beautiful....I love scrappy quilts. You did a fantastic job. Hang onto your pieces you have cut out already....you might need to make a quick quilt and that would be a fabulous one to make.

bearisgray 07-02-2013 04:17 PM

Looks like what my mom called a "braid"quilt. Looks nice.

It's really cool though.

ccthomas 07-04-2013 04:02 AM

Nice quilt.

GammaLou 07-04-2013 04:38 AM

Fons and Porter just had a TV show on this quilt. It is on their website if you don't record them. It didn't seem to bad with their tutorial.

dlb0526 07-04-2013 05:38 AM

It's very pretty!! It doesn't look hard but there has to be a reason you won't do one again. What was difficult about it because I have never done one before??

Always beautiful, Don.

quiltmom04 07-04-2013 06:16 AM

There's a much easier way to do a braid quilt. It doent use a template, which also keeps the diagonal edge from stretching as you sew. It looks like this link was posted here sometime back, but here it is again. Anytime I can do something WITHOUT a template, that's the way I do it! http://reannalilydesigns.com/2009/06...uilt-tutorial/

ube quilting 07-04-2013 06:21 AM

This is a lovely quilt. I really like your borders that pull the scrappy look together. peace

cpcarolyn 07-04-2013 07:27 AM

Nice quilt.

MargeD 07-04-2013 07:47 AM

I think it's a very pretty quilt, despite using the same template over and over again - it would be the same if you made double wedding ring quilt and other quilts I can think of. You make up for the repetition by using a great variety of fabrics, which you did.

Sierra 07-04-2013 08:02 AM

I'm with you on this! I did 3 double rows (wasn't using the straight seperation in between) and was going crazy! Absolutely hate constant repetition. One of my daughter's saved me by telling me STOP and put borders on and make two lap quilts instead of one larger. She got one of the halves and it looks great on her sofa. Relearned my lesson.
