My great niece coveted a quilt I had made a couple of years ago, so I am surprising her with one of her own. Just in time to take to college next fall. Hope she loves it.

Very colorful quilt, those are the ones I like best. Great job.

Csharp! Your quilt is beautiful. I'm sure she will love it!

I'm getting ready to quilt one of my quilt tops, which has a lot of white in it (similar to yours). I'm going to do it on my Brothers machine. I'm terrified to mark the white parts. It is Kona 100% cotton (pre washed). I tried my purple marker on a spare piece and it disappeared. That's good news. However, I know from past FMQ that if you sew over some of these pens, the ink does wash out or disappear.

What did you mark your white fabric with and did you do it on a long arm or domestic machine? Thank you.

I’m sure she will love it

Yolajean: Believe it or not, I don't bother to mark my quilts. I use a decorative serpentine on the edges, but all the white I did FMQ and this turned out the best I have ever done so far in my quilting journey. I picture a teardrop and just keep going. I really like seeing feathers on the quilts, so I try to do better each time. Did all of this on my Janome 6600P, and no hand stitching at all. Not my thing.

The pattern is Jelly Roll Strip Starburst by Kimberly Einmo and I bought her ruler to make this easier. She has a web site at www.kimberlyeinmo.com. I did my first one in 2013 I think so do not know if this is still valid. Good luck.

Did you mean Brother machine or your brothers' machine? I only ask because I am working on learning how to fmq on my brother machine and am feeling stuck. I took a class but now don't know how to get started doing the "real" thing.

stillvnu 04-21-2018 04:14 PM

How could she not love it! It is gorgeous!
