Well, I finally got all the shelves up~for about the third time! I figured that the third time is a charm and they gotta stay! I still have more fabric to wash and fold-got an order in today~but at least I can fit it all up there!
I had some "holes" in the shelving where I could put something tall and that was bothering me so I put some of the hanging baskets there instead! They hold the pieces that I want to use together so they won't get lost or used somewhere else. Gosh forbid that I lose a piece of fabric!!! The wicker baskets are holding fat quarters. The larger containers on the shelf are WIP (works in progress). The smaller ones contain all of my scraps waiting to be cut down with my accuquilt~I've been ignoring them for too long! There is a stack of backing fabric on almost the last shelf. The very top shelf holds batting scraps in containers, extra wicker baskets and pillow forms.
Depending on where I stood, some of the shelves look like they are crooked....they aren't though.
I think I need to stop buying so much fabric after the rest of my orders come in! At least they are small!!!

First thought, needed to add three more small shelves...

Then, I ended up with this configuration---which is not balanced and not me, but, I kinda like it!

Here is the most of the fabric that has to go up there....just about 40-50 yards more to wash!

Finished....I think!

Looks good.
You've been very busy. :-)

Jim's Gem 01-20-2011 12:24 PM

Looks great!!! I like to have my fabric organized. I can find it a lot easier that way!!!

natalieg 01-20-2011 12:24 PM

Too busy working on it lately-not much sewing going on in this house! Now to give the rest of the room a quick adjustment since my fabric shelves came out and then it shall be done!

pookie ookie 01-20-2011 12:25 PM

Hanging baskets are a good idea. Looks great. Wish I had the same setup.

quiltstodo 01-20-2011 12:25 PM

To be that organized would be wonderful.

Vanuatu Jill 01-20-2011 12:29 PM

Wow-I'm jealous!! Great job! I wish I had a room to store my stash in-I have to use my closet. However, it does keep me from buying more clothes-who wants a closet full of clothes when you can fill it with fabric!!!LOL

natalieg 01-20-2011 12:31 PM

Thanks for the great comments! This was the biggest bedroom in the basement that I have taken over! This closet full of fabric will be covered with my 6 ft design wall that hubby helped me to make!

belmer 01-20-2011 12:39 PM

Looks great... organization really helps when you are looking for the exact right color and design your looking for in the fabric.

I still need to get into each stack and organize them by shades, but here is how it used to be. Not all of it was on this shelf.

ann clare 01-20-2011 12:48 PM

You have a great fabric stash. Well organised

leahbug 01-20-2011 12:52 PM

brenda21 01-20-2011 01:24 PM

looks good!!

oma66 01-20-2011 01:26 PM

Wow! My "stash" can hardly be called a stash compared to some of you. What a blessing to have that much fabric. I have about 100 fabrics plus 75 fat quarters - that's my stash. Excuse me, I have to wipe the droll of the keyboard...LOL.

IBQUILTIN 01-20-2011 01:33 PM

Your storage area looks about the same size as mine, but I will never ever be that organized. Only takes one trip in that unit to have a mess all over the place. Yours is so tidy it makes me ashamed of myself.

It is for now cause I just worked on it today-but when I get in there to find fabric~fabric will fly!!!

GrammaBabs 01-20-2011 02:08 PM

what a beautiful place to work and play in.... i have to admit i'm a "mess maker", but do have a wall of fabrics...
do you make a lot of scrap quilts???
that might be a challenge for you looking at your stash....
i do know i envy your being able to handle that much fabric and not run to cut or stitch it......my problem when handling it is pulling colors and laying therm together and diving into a project.... thanks for sharing this... it makes me drool and want to sew!!!! :)

wolph33 01-20-2011 02:25 PM

wow very nice,neat and organized

carolaug 01-20-2011 02:53 PM

Quiltforme 01-20-2011 03:20 PM

Yah good for you!! I wish I could find the person that started this trend of cleaning up and organizing and thank them I am getting some great ideas!

bluecheryl 01-20-2011 03:22 PM

I like that. right now i have my fabric shoved in a cupboard. Sometimes I have to stand on my head to find something. LOL

mrs theo 01-20-2011 03:24 PM

Looks great! I love to be organized, it's just a great feeling. Of course I am a Virgo, that could have something to do with it.

sewTinker 01-20-2011 03:28 PM

wow! Beautiful! Must be like opening a jewelry box. :-)

bdship 01-20-2011 03:40 PM

You can come to my house next, you might have to stay quite awhile though, to get it to look as good as yours does.

twixbar 01-20-2011 03:42 PM

OH MY Natilie, what a lot of work, looks beautiful. Did you happen to get my envelope asking about some leaves?

I am in the middle of washing the next 40-5- yds that I have here now!

The Creative Seamstress 01-20-2011 04:12 PM

Can't wait until I can beef up my stash like some of the great collections I see on here once we have our own home/not an apartment. I just don't have the rom here. I dream of someday having shelves full of fabrics.... (totally drooling) - but truly an awesome job. I bet you'll be very glad when it's completed though!

Explosive blessings, abundance and inspiration to you all!

In the middle of this, I managed to pull off several pieces of fabric to get rid of. So, some time in the next few days, I will list them for sale!
