Dresden Dahlia?

1 Attachment(s)
I should stay away from Pinterest! I saw a picture of this block and had to try it. I think it might end up being a pillow front. I think the name is Dresden Dahlia but I am not sure. The nice part is, there are no raw edges showing so I can stitch it right to a background square.

looks exellent

ManiacQuilter2 07-28-2016 02:00 PM

Someone is sure very clever with designing this pattern. Tartan, I spend way much too time looking at patterns on Google. Just enjoy the patterns you find!

QUILTNMO 07-28-2016 03:13 PM

that is vert neat!!!

M.Elizabeth 07-28-2016 03:18 PM

It must be nice to have the ability to look at a photo and reproduce it! Not in my realm! Beautiful block.

yngldy 07-28-2016 06:57 PM

Love it! Beautiful block.

Stevensgirl 07-28-2016 07:36 PM

That's very pretty!

Jane Quilter 07-28-2016 08:24 PM

Wow! What a beauty! You are really talented!

What a clever design. Nice work.

stitchingcrazy 07-29-2016 02:36 AM

Can we have a"how to" pattern please. I am a Dresden plate fan ( excuse the pun) and use the ruler to make mine but the secondary petal foxes me rather as to how you sewed it into the main flower/ plate. You are indeed very clever to work it out yourself. I have seen one on MSQC but that was just the insertion of a contrasting triangle shape folded down the middle from point to bottom, then pressed flat, which was pretty. Yours seems more intricate. Brilliant! Thanks for sharing your talents.

rj.neihart 07-29-2016 03:46 AM

Oh - how very different! Hope you don't mind if I borrow this idea?

twinkie 07-29-2016 03:48 AM

I so admire your talents Tartan. You always do amazing work.

maviskw 07-29-2016 06:18 AM

I love that Dresden plate. If you wanted, you could lay a piece of a different color under the plate as you stitch it down. Yellow centers? All different colored centers? ? ? ?

angelmama22 07-29-2016 06:38 AM

Love your Dresden! Are the gray pieces "loose" on the top part? Does it have a 3D effect? That's the way it looks to me in the pic.

cindyb 07-29-2016 07:10 AM

I use Edyta Sitar's shooting star pattern BUT there is a round center you applique on top. I like this finished center way better - not sure how to go about finishing it that way though. Any tips?

Absolutely beautiful. Of course the assembly is a mystery to me, but it seems that the smaller "petals" are inserted between the larger petals. But-- can't figure out the pointed tip facing the center. Just a guess. I love the dahlia.

mjmachin 07-29-2016 07:45 AM

I love the center of this.... would also like to see a "how to" as I love doing Dresden Plate design and this is so beautiful and interesting.

meanmom 07-29-2016 07:48 AM

Very pretty. I have admired that block, but never actually made it.

SewingSew 07-29-2016 07:53 AM

Very nice design.

Missouri Star has a tutorial on this block.

Margie 07-29-2016 12:18 PM

Missouri Star quilt tutorial on youtube.com calls it Sunburst Dresden plate

Tartan 07-29-2016 12:35 PM

Similar but like this one from Pinterest because it gives a finished edge to the center ready to applique onto a background square.

madamekelly 07-29-2016 02:16 PM

I ran across a similar to the MSQC idea but different. It is on my bucket list to do.

BrendaK 07-29-2016 03:00 PM

Hello Tartan, Did you figure out how to make the center pieces without having raw edges or is there a pattern for this. I have tried to find the pattern using the name you mentioned, but have not found anything. The Missouri Star tutorial Sunburst does not finish the center like yours. Thank you, Ellen

QuiltnNan 07-30-2016 02:13 AM

great job, tartan
the Pinterest picture leads to this site http://northerndeb.blogspot.com/2009...00s-quilt.html
she said there is no pattern, that she made it up

Kimcatlou 07-30-2016 04:41 AM

I need help. How can I get patterns for things seen on Pinterest?

SandySews 07-30-2016 05:17 AM

I love this....

callen 07-30-2016 05:44 AM

Love this Tartan. Beautifully done.

bibi 07-30-2016 05:50 AM

Awesome you are sooooo talented!

maviskw 07-30-2016 05:58 AM

I think you finish the center just like you did the outside. Fold the petal in half and sew the top. Fold the bottom white part and sew. Trim, open and press and then you sew the whites to the petals. The white petals seem to be sewn to the colored petal while folded and then opened so the seam is in the middle underneath. It's hard to see in the picture, but the white part may be loose. Then it just overlaps the next one.

mac 07-30-2016 07:57 AM

Woo-hoo! Great looking block and great idea for a pillow.

annette1952 07-30-2016 08:38 AM

Beautiful block.

RedGarnet222 07-30-2016 08:51 AM

What a cool pattern! I immediately saw it as a light yellow with a lighter medium blue sewn onto a dark midnight blue for a star of Bethlehem. Very inspiring block!
