Posted my delimna to the main board, but here is a picture of one of the plates. Opinions on the size of the center plate needed, please. Too big? As I said, it comes form Eleanor Burns's Egg Money Quilts Book. Thanks

Vicki W 07-06-2011 05:54 AM

I think it is lovely

ruck9085 07-06-2011 05:55 AM

Thank you!

Dianemarie 07-06-2011 05:56 AM

It is a matter of your personal preference. I have seen different sizes of centers. It just depends on who's doing them and the pattern if they are using one.

Tippy 07-06-2011 05:56 AM

I've been getting ready to do a dresden plate and one thing I have noticed.. no matter the size of the plate the centers vary a lot.. so I think it's what ever appeals to you.

greenini 07-06-2011 05:57 AM

Looks great!

dinlauren 07-06-2011 06:02 AM

Is the center already stitched down?? If not, keep in mind it will be smaller when you turn under the 1/4". But I think it looks nice. Dresden plate is my new favorite.

needles3thread 07-06-2011 06:13 AM

The larger size center looks great in my estimation.

maryel 07-06-2011 06:31 AM

What a beautiful Dresden Plate! I think it looks great the way it is.

QuiltnNan 07-06-2011 06:38 AM

it looks great just the way you've made it

ccb2200 07-06-2011 06:53 AM

It isn't too big. Love it.

QuiltnCowgirl 07-06-2011 06:57 AM

If you want to draw the eye away from the large circle, you could add a 2nd, smaller circle on top of the larger one, using one of your other fabrics. Maybe one of the prints?

Sandee 07-06-2011 07:02 AM

I think that size you are showing looks great!

rwquilts 07-06-2011 07:04 AM

I love the colors you've used! So pretty!

blueangel 07-06-2011 07:19 AM

I like it

jigs1354 07-06-2011 07:21 AM

Hi, I have several already made just like you have posted here with the large centers and as long as they are Dresdens who cares:). It's GORGEOUS!!! Don't change a thing. BEAUTIFUL COLORS TOO!!! just the way you made it. Mine are all scrapy colors which I love in the Dresdens. Even if your doing the Dresden block exchange and some centers are bigger than others, THAT'S QUILTING!! and I don't think ANYONE would say OH!! NO!! you can't put those, with some smaller centers and some larger centers :). I would do a swap with you anytime and no explaination needed. Are you going to stitch around the plates? I'm in a swap now to do exactly that and to me that's something I have not done much of, so I will see how it goes. PM me sometime, love to hear from you.
Shilrey/Tn. (jigs1354) on the board. :)

I think it's awesome. Who would want a quilt that was exactly like someone else's anyway?

ube quilting 07-06-2011 07:59 AM

I think it works well. This is going to be great when finished. Just think of the special quilting you can put in the center of the larger circle! Wow!
peace :D

Jean Fry 07-06-2011 08:01 AM

Looks good to me. Dresden plate is my next quilt. Will be making it in Civil War Fabrics.

Yosamitesa 07-06-2011 08:08 AM

I love it with the little bit larger middle! :)

aurora41 07-06-2011 08:10 AM

I think you could try an smaller center. It may look better, but the way you have it, looks nice too.

Rosie the "Ripper" 07-06-2011 08:29 AM

I think it is just beautiful. I have lately been leaning towards the color purple.
I have always thought that it was an "old fashioned" color because my grandmother always had purple hydrangeas and cone flowers in her garden, purple aprons on all the time, purple dresses, you name it. It all looked so lovely with her snow white hair. But I have seen some beautiful fabrics in purples and have started to collect them.
Your combination is great. The center looks good. You did "great"!!!!! Keep on work'in.

jaciqltznok 07-06-2011 08:31 AM

to make it look smaller use a lighter color...BUT, I do love it like this!

Jingle 07-06-2011 09:13 AM

Beautiful and I love your color choices. Maybe the center would look better a bit smaller. Just my opinion, be sure you are happy with the size.

mequilter 07-06-2011 09:15 AM

I really like it. The colors are so pretty!

jljack 07-06-2011 09:20 AM

Not too big. I think it's about right.

alikat110 07-06-2011 10:03 AM

It's cute. There are many dresden quilts and the centers always vary

DeeBooper 07-06-2011 11:28 AM

I like the size..it is just right. Colors are great too.

4girlsmimi 07-06-2011 11:58 AM

Looks good to me.

QUILTNMO 07-06-2011 04:23 PM

I LIKE YOU AND LOVE THE COLORS

4EVERquilt 07-06-2011 04:25 PM

Looks good to me!!

Kitsapquilter 07-06-2011 04:27 PM

It looks good from here! I would think the size of the center would depend if it is going to be used in a quilt (in which case I could see making it smaller)but if it is for a tabletopper then I like the larger center. Yours would look really good for tabletopper!!

debcavan 07-06-2011 04:28 PM

It looks good to me. Your colors are so pretty

Latrinka 07-06-2011 04:57 PM

I prefer the center circle smaller, but it's a matter of opinion really. I still think it's a beautiful dresden!

silver queen 07-07-2011 06:54 AM

The fabrics you have chosen are beautiful. Perfect sized center. It "pops". I'd love to see the entire Egg Money Quilt when it's done. I have one partially cut out...
