Mix your white-on-white backgrounds, and mix your red, white, and black fabrics. You can keep using the black for the sashing, but can mix and match the borders. End result is a scrappy dresden plate quilt. You could even alternate the dresden plate that you did with one having the rounded outer edges - which would give you practice doing curves. Keep us posted and let us see the end results.

Looks good, keep going and make a whole quilt.

luce321 07-23-2011 03:24 PM

Dresden Plate is one of my favorites. By all means, keep going.

Definetly make more for a quilt! Different colours for each block, and you'd have a fabulous quilt! And this block could be a co-ordinating pillow! Great job! I'm working on one in brights and yellows!!! Keep going on and make more!

lynnsim 07-23-2011 05:55 PM

It's beautiful! I love scrappy; so, whatever you want to do would be good. I know the original Dresden Plates were all done scrappy, I think.

Tweety2911 07-23-2011 06:03 PM

Go for it, make the quilt! You did a lovely job.

Shirlrh 07-23-2011 08:15 PM

Very nice. I would just keep making them.

khurtdvm 07-23-2011 08:21 PM

I'm getting ready to make a Dresden plate block for the sampler wall hanging I've planned - I hope my first one turns out as nicely as yours!

owlvamp 07-23-2011 08:37 PM

soniboo 07-23-2011 08:40 PM

Dresdens are like potato chips...you can't do just one  Great job!

MelodyWB 07-23-2011 08:42 PM

Excellent job..keep going !!

daisydebby 07-23-2011 08:57 PM

Love that potato chip comment from Soniboo:) Too funny. I'd keep on going and try for a quilt or throw. Traditionally, a white background and scrappy. Whatever you use, it'll be great.

sew1 07-23-2011 08:59 PM

Looks good. Definitely keep going.

charlotte37830 07-23-2011 10:17 PM

it's up to you, but that would make a stunning quilt!

dinlauren 07-24-2011 07:50 AM

You did a fabulous job on it. Dresden was also my first applique and loved doing it. I made a baby quilt but I agree, you should go an and make a quilt. Beautiful.

Love this pattern.

MellieKQuilter 07-24-2011 10:59 AM

Thanks for all the encourgament! I found a fat quarter set on Etsy with the same types of fabrics, and I will need to pick up some more background fabrics, but I think my goal will be to make enough for a quilt. It is a fun block to make when i am in the mood for something different. So, it may take awhile, but I think it may be my new WIP! :)

nannyrick 07-24-2011 04:08 PM

Very nice. Keep going.

Cottontop 07-24-2011 04:21 PM

Quilting Angel 07-25-2011 01:05 AM

margie77072 07-26-2011 12:17 PM

keep going. I want to see the finished quilt.

Marvel 07-27-2011 06:51 AM

This is an easy pattern and gives a lot of satisfaction when a whole quilt is made. I would go for it.You have done a good job on this one!

donnacollierbess 07-28-2011 03:07 PM

Did you hand stitch around the edges of the plate? I have a dresden plate quilt all ready to go but I'm afraid of the hand stitching and I don't applique. Eeeeehhhhh

debcavan 07-28-2011 03:18 PM

Frame it. Make a candle mat. Pillows.. Build a quilt around it

I did. I think what I did was a turned method? I ironed under 1/4 inch and then used the same stitch I do with my bindings to stitch it down. Not sure if this is right or not, but it looks nice. I enjoy having hand work items to do when I am watching TV. When you say its all ready, do yuo have all of the plates sewn together? And they just need to be set on the foundation?

If there was more time for me to complete them... and the style was different. I am more interested in either '30's prints or black/white/red prints than fall colors. Maybe the next time you have one I will be able to join in! :)
