I am starting this thread so everyone who is making the DP bookmark can post any pics you want.
I encourage everyone to post a pic of the blocks you are making now. I think everyone will be interested to see what fabrics you are using and how you are faring with the yoyos etc. so I would love to see some pics going on here now and not waiting til the bookmarks are all done!! What do you say ladies and gents? We would love to see your bookmark in progress!! |
I went through the tutorial, Rhonda and I think it's something I can do. I'd love to try it this weekend. If you hear far-off screams, you'll know that I need to ask questions. :-D
|
I am going to be gone tomarrow aft but I will be available other wise to answer your screams Ducky!! LOL They may be screams of delight when you find you can do it easily!! LOl

Had a migraine yesterday evening so did not work on them. I started this morning and have gotten this far. I placed them in a plastic disposable plate and sprayed them with starch. I am going to leave them to dry until tomorrow.
Here they are all saturated with starch and waiting to dry. |
They look terrific OQF! Love your fabric choice.
I like the plastic plate idea too! Love learning new things from you guys too! |
Thank you for this tutorial.
I have one question What do you do with the last stitch on the yoyo???? cut it off or sew it inside? Thanks, Marie |
Great idea OQD!! I did that when I saw that you had... hadn't even thought about that and with my daughter doing one with me, it was nice to have something to put it in and not get messed up

I just completed the blocks.

Lookin great OQF!! So how do you feel about the process? I love your fabric choices.
|
Thank you Rhonda.
After I squared up the first block I said "wow" these are small. However, I remembered the DJ blocks and if I did those I can also do this. Looking forward to the part 2. |

OK, I've got lesson 1 done. I'm making 2 bookmarks, me & DH. First mini I'm attempting, it's different, but could become additive.
|
kygirl,
I love your fabric. Your blocks look so much nicer than mine. Lovely work. |

So any comments on the process? Like or dislike anything? Was it hard to do or easy to do? |

This class is a lot of fun...I can't wait for #2..
Here is what I have done so far....I am waiting on my little rulers..but I went ahead and cut these the best I could with two rulers I have....I am going to make two bookmarks too....I have the first ones cut already...the other one will be out of the same fabric but I am reversing the colors..... bopeep |
Looks great retrogirl!! I like reds alot so I like your fabrics!
Anyone who has EQ can go in and play with designs and colors and turn blocks to see what happens. It's a lot of fun! If you don't have a software program you can use graph paper and cut out paper blocks and turn them to see what designs you get. Play with the color and challenge yourself to see what you can come up with. Color makes a big big differance in designing. Just changing the color can give you a whole new look. |
Everything looks great so far... all look awesome. I have my circles done just have to make the squares (hopefully tomorrow).
|
So far, your steps and pics have made the process very easy and fun. I'm enjoying working with the tiny. The only time consuming part was removing the paper circles after the starch had dried. I kinda tore them in half so I wouldn't disturb the fabric.

Rhonda,
Here are my bookmarks. They did not come out very good but at least I did complete the project. The stitch is extremely wonky around the edges, especially the corners. When I reached the corners they kept sticking and did not want to move. Anyway, they are done. |
Rhonda,
Thank you very much for giving so much of your time and your generosity. |
Very nice I'm going to finish mine this week, dh is out of town making things alot easier for me.
|
OQF I love how yours turned out. I like the lacy look you got with the stitching you used. My seams on the edge are frequently not straight! It catches the edge and throws it out of a straight line sometimes. oh well nothing is perfect!! LOL
thanks for posting your pics!! I love looking at everyone's bookmarks! |
OQF.....Your bookmarks turned out great !!!!!
I Love Them !!!!!!! bopeep |
Rhonda and bopeep,
Thank you. bopeep I love yours. |
THANK YOU OQF......
I hope you had as much fun as I did making these... bopeep |
I make hotpads checkbook covers coin purses and totes etc for the store in kalona but the bookmarks are my favorite thing to make because they are reasonably quick to make. They have been my second best seller too ever since I introduced them about 4 or 5 yrs ago.
I am so glad you liked them too!! they make great gifts as the feedback I have had is they are easy to pack in a suitcase - don't take up much room- and they make great teacher gifts etc. |

Here is my attempt... not very good, but fun to do. Thanks Rhonda for showing us how.
My (not so great) bookmark |
Oh wow DenaK I love it! You did a fantastic job on it! Learning something new takes time to get it to your own satifaction but I think it is great! We are our own worse critics you know!
How big did it end up being? I played around with differant sizes when I first started making them. Just curious how your's turned out for size. |
