Yet another project from my stash. Yippee!
I did my first curved seams in this project for my son. It's one of his Christmas gifts. It serves as a kindermat that he can take to preschool when he's older or he can use it as a "race track" for his little cars.
If you look closely, you'll notice a white fabric with yellow and red bears on it. My Grandma used to have a blankie at her house that all of us grandkids used so much that it fell apart a few years ago. She gave me the blanket to see if I could fix it. I ended up salvaging as much as I could of it. I made her a new quilt with it, and put the leftover scrap into my son's nap mat.
I can't wait to see him use it after he gets his little Chuck the Truck toys for Christmas!

It's hard to see, but I embroidered all kinds of different vehicles on the nap mat.

It rolls up for easy portability and storage.

Butterflyblue 12-21-2010 06:23 PM

Oh, I always thought that would be such a great pattern for a kids quilt, but it always looked so time-consuming I gave it a pass. I love how yours turned out.

I absolutely LOVE it!!! Is this your own design, or is it from a pattern? If a pattern, which one? I would love to make one of these for my fiance's youngest grandson and perhaps one for our upcoming school auction! :D

trif 12-21-2010 09:05 PM

The pattern for the 8 inch blocks came from the Roads pattern in "The Encyclopedia of Classic Quilt Patterns." I figured out how to turn in into a nap mat on my own.

grannypat7925 12-22-2010 07:08 AM

WOW! He will get many hours of pleasure from this!

gmaybee 12-22-2010 07:09 AM

This s great. I played with 'ROADS' and buckets of match box vechicles for years with my son. When I see an idea like this I always think Where was this when when
Ned was little? Your boy will enjoy your gift.

katesnanna 12-23-2010 10:53 PM

I love this. Makes me wish my grandsons were younger. I made a floor mat for my granddaughter and made a bag that was like a sleeping bag cover for it. My daughter got lots of comments.

eiltcoq 12-24-2010 06:12 AM

DawnMarie, Your quilt is darling. It's neat how it rolls up and can be taken wherever your son goes to daycare. THanks for showing. Eiltcoq.
