I'm going to have to start taking notes. I love the rice bag idea too. I KNOW I will make one of those for myself and friends.

Ohh yes! I love Maxine! Her character is just as witty & outspoken as my as my DH's Grandmother was. Loved her to pieces. LOL I will buy it! You betcha. LOL

Many older people start to feel invisible, and I think this sort of thing leads to that. For many people, this is probably overthinking a "funny" comic strip, but we can all think back to some of the old comics that portrayed African-American or Native Americans in a less than flattering light, with the intent of being "funny". If we saw them now, we'd be appalled.

So, I won't be buying any Maxine...even though I chuckle when one is put in front of me...I still work hard to train my mind about the long-term effects of this sort of humor.

I hadn't thought about it from that perspective. As I contemplate this view, I may not change my mind, but will definitely spend some time thinking about your comments. Thanks for sharing this perspective. :-) I don't want to be insensitive to anyone.

ETA is May 12 for its arrival here... but it's coming all the way from California to NY, and sometimes it takes a day longer than what we expect.

And 15-year olds too. I have one of each! I'm sure that's all they hear, anyway.

And mine MUMBLE, too... which means I don't hear much more than they do.

Just found the Maxine fabric here in St. Louis! It is a hoot, and I love the blah, blah, blah! Great for sashing!

bearisgray 07-04-2010 04:52 PM

I think Maxine is a hoot -

The fabric looks like it would be hard to work with - the panels/cartoons are unevenly sized and not in a line -

Shemjo 07-04-2010 04:53 PM

I think I am going to separate the pictures and use them on bags. Will have to see what I can get to! Some of the fabric is made so it is easy to cut apart.

Some people still like maxine. I made a bow tucks bag for my sister using the green blah blah blah and the small circle fabric. She loved it and not because she is my sister....
