WOW!! That would be a great idea for my classroom!! May I borrow (aka steal) it? ;) I could make several of them of the different classical books my students read during the school year. Wait!!! I could have them design the wallhangings themselves!!! Yep!! I like that idea!!

Steal away!!!! All I did was go online to free clipart and searched for "raven" and "scary tree". The pictures were too small so I took them to OfficeMax to have them enlarged to the size I wanted. I traced the picture onto "Heat N Bond" paperback adhesive and then had fun. The best part was finding the "ominous sky" and "scary tree" fabric. If you do make anything or have your students make them, please post pictures....I'd love to see them!

:)

Oh how fun! I love your wallhanging. Very cool!

I have to tell you all about ashley poe. She is my best friend's granddaughter, and decendent to the late edgar allan poe. Her mother was murdered when she was only six. She lives with her aunt now.

But, she wrote a small book about losing her mother and the feelings she was experiancing. She won national reccognition and it was published in a small quantity. So, the family does have persons who have talent. Who knows what she will write in the future?

What a shame about your bestfriend's DGD losing her mother violently at such a young age. How old was she when she wrote the book? Looks like writing runs in the family. It will be interesting to see if she does take up writing as a career in the future. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for responding to my story. Yes it was a year after her mom was killed, so she was seven. She is a real beauty too! She looks just like her mom with ice blue eyes and almost black hair with porcelan skin. She makes straight A's in school and I think she will do well if she goes into anything. That whole family is talented but there is lots of tragic stories about the family. Her dad committed suicide!

Nanjun 07-16-2010 03:18 AM

You are so clever! Nice wall hanging.

mimee4 07-16-2010 04:47 AM

Great idea to demonstrate a certain author in a library. And great job on the quilt!

Kellie G 07-16-2010 07:26 AM

I think you did a great job in representing the raven. What a wonderful wall hanging.

DoxieMom 07-16-2010 08:12 AM

Oh, how strikingly eery! And very creative!

fktsewing 07-16-2010 08:37 AM

It is wonderful and even if the name of the book was not on it, I would have known right away. The jewel for the eye says it all. Way to go. Hope you win.

tooMuchFabric 07-16-2010 08:57 AM

That is really a nice project. Good creative eye you have there.

Calico Grammy 07-16-2010 03:42 PM

Great work!! Very creative! Really sets the mood!

AnnaK 07-16-2010 08:22 PM

Your quilt really does a good job of conjuring up the feeling one gets at readind The Raven. I would be interested to see what other contestants come up with. If you can, post pictures, although I already know who's going to win---and well deserved. You did a great job. In fact, you've given me an idea and I think I will pose this to my book club: that we each do an art project representing our favorite book we read this year. We have 12 to pick from! Thanks for the inspiration.

Annz 07-16-2010 09:55 PM

So so nice

quiltin mimi 07-16-2010 10:51 PM

The Raven wall hanging is super neat. I can hear the actor Vincent Price reading to the poem to Stephen King.

maggiemuggins 07-17-2010 09:40 AM

Love it....so appropriate.

I am from Maryland. Every birthday of Edgar Allen Poe, someone left roses and a bottle of alcohol at his gravesite in Baltimore. Also our football team is the Baltimore Ravens.
