Elementary school fundraiser quilt

1 Attachment(s)
The third grade students at Oakbrook Elementary School in Spartanburg, South Carolina, colored quilt blocks with designs that represent South Carolina for a quilt to be auctioned to raise funds for their school. I assembled the blocks, quilted with a simple loop meander, and bound the quilt for them. I just learned today that the quilt was sold at the auction for $1,600.00. This was not due to my sewing or quilting skills, but because parents will pay almost anything for their children's work.

Thanks, everyone. I am glad that the quilt raised so much money for the school. I feel better now about having done it for them again this year. I was sorry for a while that I had promised to do it for them, because my husband went to the hospital in February for three weeks and then had to go to a nursing home (he has Alzheimer's). I spend most of February and March very depressed and hardly able to do any quilting at all. In fact, I haven't done any quilting much since before Christmas. I had to force myself to work on this quilt.

Truly an awesome quilt! Wouldn't it be wonderful if the buyer would then donate the quilt back to the school to hang in the office or hallway?

Pennyquilter88 04-11-2012 05:02 AM

What a great fund-raiser! Reminds me of how much parents would pay for a cake when my sons were in scouts. The dad and son had to make the cake! Parents are willing to pay lots for their child's work!

Cute quilt and such a rememberance for the children who got to work on it. I am sure they are proud of their work and the auction price is great. Congratulations to you for donating your time and money also. Great work.

Material Witness 04-11-2012 02:38 PM
