Elephant Abstractions Quilt

This is a photo of my quilt made with a pattern by Violet Craft. It is a paper pieced pattern that was time consuming but I am very pleased with the results. I have had fun searching the internet for other elephant quilts in a variety of fabrics and quilting styles. I wonder if any other members of this board have done this pattern. It would be great to see even more elephants.

It's fantastic. I have been admiring that pattern but I don't know if I can do it.

gramajo 03-09-2017 09:37 PM

Your elephant is wonderful! You're much braver to make that pattern than I'd be.

QM 03-09-2017 10:02 PM

Nicely done.

BrendaK 03-09-2017 10:15 PM

I love elephants and this quilt is super. I am not sure if I could finish this. How long did it take you? Seems like a lot of paper to tear off. I sure am glad that you did it because it's great. BrendaK

Oh my goodness, he is beautiful. or she. I am daunted by the work required to do that.

Tartan 03-10-2017 06:46 AM

Your quilt is totally stunning! I love the colors, the design...all of it! I am not a fan of paper piecing for myself...(too much paper to tear out) but WOW what beautiful results!!!

Nice work! (Great colors too, LOL ;))

Mine is not quilted yet, but here's a pic of the top... I'll post it when I'm done with the quilting. (My daughter is doing one in purples too.)

I did the freezer paper method so I did not have to remove the paper and the pattern is ready for next time. It was about 80 hours for the whole project but I enjoyed it.It took a while to prepare the freezer paper but I hate ripping off paper. Then I sketched out quilting designs and that took a while too. I love your background "leaves"! I'm just getting started on my quilting, but plan on using vines for my background. That's about the only thing I've decided on so far.

CMW 03-10-2017 07:28 AM

I am looking forward to seeing more quilts. Wendy, I love your blue elephant and I am sure the purple one will be fabulous.

Homespun 03-10-2017 08:06 AM

Gorgeous!!

redstilettos 03-10-2017 10:00 AM

I bought this pattern and am totally afraid to try it!

I love that you chose other colors than gray. I love the gray, too, but I've seen it in fuscia and it is spectacular, as is the blue you used here.

Very nicely done with the quilted leaves. I may have to steal that idea if I ever attempt to work on this one!

redquilter 03-10-2017 10:14 AM

Amazing! Really love it and admire your patience and talent.

Maggie_Sue 03-10-2017 11:24 AM

Really beautiful work, well done and great fabric colors. I like to do it as well, but I live in Cuba and I cannot buy a pattern from USA, a pitty

red-warrior 03-10-2017 06:42 PM

Very nice!

Sync 03-10-2017 06:53 PM

This is fantastic. You should be very pleased with this.

Sleepy Hollow 03-10-2017 07:17 PM

That's gorgeous!

I'd love to do this pattern, but as a beginner it is so daunting. I should probably buy the pattern before I miss out on it though.

nativetexan 03-10-2017 08:31 PM

oh gosh. you will have enough for a herd of elephants. lovely, all.

blahel 03-10-2017 10:42 PM

beautiful elephants, love all the different colours.

jmoore 03-11-2017 03:31 AM

CMW, your elephant is amazing...I cannot imagine how many pieces and the time it has taken you but I can see why you are pleased with the end result...it is fantastic.

Wendy, your elephant is also amazing. Hats off to both of you for such dedication.
