That is awesome! My kids would love searching for all of those hidden treasures!

JenelTX 01-24-2011 06:18 AM

I love this! I don't even notice any crooked seams. (I'm a pre-beginner, so take that for what it's worth. LOL) I love that the star is all light fabrics, but different, rather than just using the same fabric for the entire star. This is really special, and you should be very proud.

buckeyed 01-24-2011 06:21 AM

I am learning too but would not have the confidence that you had to do this quilt. Wonderful job...Keep up the good work!

DJ 01-24-2011 06:35 AM

That's very impressive! Love the tags on the pix labeling where the fabrics are from.

ljptexas 01-24-2011 07:09 AM

That is a quilt to be very proud of!! Good for you!!

I'll let you in on a secret, ALL of us find flaws in our own work. Don't be too self critical. You are doing excellent fussy cutting as well.

I think I would put in a narrow white border followed by a wider one, either more scraps, or one of blue or green.

cinnya 01-24-2011 12:39 PM

I love stars..You did a great job:):)

Rann 01-24-2011 02:34 PM

Blue for the 1st border is what this quilt says to me, then the green. IMHO Fantastic quilt and great job.

I tried to underline, but it didn't work!

Thank you for posting this information. I definitely do not want to take credit for someone else's design! I am not the quilt designer! (Just an admirer of stars and scraps!) In my earlier post, I explained how I saw a photo of a similar quilt and broke it down on a grid. I just wanted to share a visual to match my explanation.

QM 01-24-2011 02:57 PM

Whether you designed it or not, you recognized it as what you wanted to do and put a lot of good work into it.

Jim 01-24-2011 04:31 PM

thats pretty powerful to call yourself a beginner when you do something that amazing

JLMiller 01-24-2011 10:02 PM

[quote=KSCrafter]I'm still a beginner but thought I'd show my Exploding Star quilt to you anyway. It was done on a machine that's probably as old as I am- while I either had one eye on the TV or was helping my daughter with homework. And that's my excuse for all the crooked seams! :-)
Some of the fabrics were from my aunt and grandmother's stash. I remember Granny wearing blouses out of some of these! Good thing I have more of these crazy fabrics left to make another quilt because I learned alot doing this one! quote]

wow awesome pattern... that is great.... did you make up the design yourself?... I also have a bunch of those old time fabs... lol... fun
