Here is the finished (maybe) quilt top. My DH wants a brown border so I added it in between but now I am wondering if I should or should not put the outer brown border as well. Thought? Which do you prefer?

sharon b 01-01-2010 01:03 PM

I Love that pattern and golor choices  I kind of like the way the brown seperates the border

imjustme 01-01-2010 01:04 PM

I like the 1st pic.

Esqmommy 01-01-2010 01:05 PM

Yes, go for the extra row of brown. Makes it look complete. besides, it'll be easier to do the binding on a solid piece than the pieced border!!

momto4 01-01-2010 01:05 PM

Thank you! :) Up close they have flowers here and there but it is more manly colors haha. :)

momto4 01-01-2010 01:05 PM

Ohh good point esq I hadnt even though about that!!

eparys 01-01-2010 01:07 PM

It is purely a personal thing - no right or wrong answers. I would go for another outer border, however, to help frame the quilt - but that is just me.

BTW I like the quilt - Nice job.

lisalovesquilting 01-01-2010 01:08 PM

I vote for the extra border of brown, too. Nice work!

momto4 01-01-2010 01:10 PM

Thank you so much. :) It is my first that is any real size. The rest have all been lap quilt size, table runners, wall hangings, and other quilted gifts. :) DH loves it so that makes me happy too!

daisyboo9 01-01-2010 01:10 PM

I think another boarder would look great, would finish it off nicely.

amma 01-01-2010 01:11 PM

I love the additional brown border on the outside edge :D:D:D
It gives the quilt a more finished look, and it makes the borders look more complex too
I would not want to add binding to pieced sections...it would be harder to get them to lay down nice and flat.

patricej 01-01-2010 01:13 PM

do a brown binding the same width you'd have made the border.

two birds with one stone. (apologies to the birdies. )

thismomquilts 01-01-2010 01:17 PM

I like it with the outside brown border

prairiegirl 01-01-2010 01:19 PM

Great quilt and great colors.
I vote for a brown border, too.
And, I do like Patrice's idea and would/will use it.

karielt 01-01-2010 01:20 PM

I vote extra boarder it finishes it off quite nice. I love your quilt!

NauDeeGal 01-01-2010 01:24 PM

I would add the brown border and probably bind it in brown also. Very nice quilt. Great Job!

twistedstitcher 01-01-2010 01:25 PM

Really pretty! I prefer it with the outer border as well. Nice job!

LMAO hahaha

barnbum 01-01-2010 02:03 PM

What a gorgeous quilt! I like the cool scrappy border between two plain ones--makes it really pop! Your hubby must be so pleased with this piece!!

Patrice--it's less violent to say "pet two puppies with one hand." I had to change it years ago because I always felt so badly for the birds.

redquilter 01-01-2010 02:04 PM

That's a great quilt. I cast my vote with the others - like the way you have it with the 2 brown borders. Way to go!

MamaBear61 01-01-2010 02:54 PM

I agree, I like the idea of a solid border as a frame. After all it is a work of art

Blue Bell 01-01-2010 03:00 PM

I vote for the extra border, as well. Your quilt is fabulous. Love it.

mamaw 01-01-2010 03:58 PM

Yay

maryb119 01-01-2010 04:00 PM

I vote for the extra border.

hsquiltingmom 01-01-2010 06:14 PM

I think the extra brown border would look great.

momto4 01-01-2010 07:48 PM

Finished it! I posted pics under Split Decision quilt. :)

cutebuns 01-01-2010 08:09 PM

I would put the second brown boarder on, I would be tempted to make it a bit thicker.

joeyoz 01-01-2010 08:27 PM

I like the outer brown border.

I agree

Great looking quilt and I ditto what Patrice said!

bob1414 01-02-2010 07:39 AM

Additional brown border gets my vote!

shaverg 01-02-2010 08:12 AM

I also vote extra border.

May in Jersey 01-02-2010 09:08 AM

I say YAY, add the extra brown border, May in Jersey

Quilter7x 01-02-2010 09:26 AM

Scratch this post, I just noticed another thread where you already added the border and are sending it to the quilter. Great decision because it looks excellent!

rufree4t 01-02-2010 09:35 AM

I like it with the extra brown border.
It looks more finished that way imho.

RedGarnet222 01-02-2010 09:48 AM

I agree with a brown border on the outside edge. It is much easier to quilt and add the binding with the flat surface.

sewNso 01-02-2010 10:30 AM

ditto, extra brown border then brown binding. masculine finish. beautiful manly quilt.

Ducky 01-02-2010 10:32 AM

Yup. Extra outer border. I love the way that looks!

bstanbro 01-02-2010 10:39 AM

I like the way the two brown borders frame the pieced border, and it will definitely be easier to sew on the binding with a solid piece.
