fabric comes from the most unusual places...

I stopped at the Salvation Army on my way home today and found this pair of pants that are homemade and never been worn... the fabric is still like it was on the bolt. I tested them for content and they are all cotton. I think they are ugly pants, but look at the fabric I will glean from them. I think the fabric is lovely, just not for pants...

I will add it to my stash after I cut it into 10" sqs. 5 " sqs and 2 1/2" strips and maybe even 2 1/2" sqs. I paid 50 cents for the pants!

ruthie 07-10-2012 02:34 PM

You're right the pants are disgusting but the fabric is great. Can't wait to see a quilt with it in it.

suern3 07-10-2012 02:37 PM

You have a good eye to be able to see how this fabric can be used! Very pretty. I probably would would have walked right past it.

quiltsRfun 07-10-2012 02:51 PM

I agree, those pants are awful! But congrats on a great fabric find.

Nanaquilts44 07-10-2012 02:54 PM

What wonderful vision you have. This will work great in a quilt. Be sure and show us what you do with the fabric.

Helen S 07-10-2012 02:58 PM

Well, I can see why they ended up at Sally's! lol I just LOVE a great bargain!

paulswalia 07-10-2012 03:02 PM

I agree - hideous pants, glorious fabric. I did the same in my own closet - I had made a Nehru style jacket and drawstring pants (see how old I am????) out of cotton many moons ago and have now cut them up into squares and strips for the stash. Phew - I NEVER wore the outfit!!! What was I thinking????

Teddybear Lady 07-10-2012 04:22 PM

When I go to our local thrift store, I always look at the clothes for interesting fabrics. Be sure and show us your masterpiece from this fabric.

Neesie 07-10-2012 05:12 PM

Those pants are just . . . weird.
Great fabric find, though!

Wanabee Quiltin 07-10-2012 05:41 PM

cindy4857 07-10-2012 08:26 PM

Congrats on your find!!!!!

newbee 07-11-2012 07:57 AM

Great find. You were so smart to look in the pants aisle. I love buying 100 percent cotton scrubs at thrift shops for quilts. Cute patterns and lots of fabric for the $.

Mariposa 07-11-2012 08:03 AM

Neat fabric! Looking forward to seeing your new creations with it! :)

Wow those are some seriously hideous pants but I agree - really cool fabric!
I've bought skirts for fabric in the past. I still have on skirt that I'm going to chop up and make in to a bag or something. It has women walking poodles on it :D

chips88 07-11-2012 08:52 AM

i agree ugly pants.. but it would be great in a quilt

bearisgray 07-11-2012 08:53 AM

Wonderful cotton fabric! :D Score!

Baloonatic 07-11-2012 10:01 AM

Oh I dunno, I've seen PLENTY of uglier pants ...they wear the silliest looking pajama bottoms IN PUBLIC, seems to be all the rage on the college kids around here. And the accompanying 'bed head' and sleepy, hung-over look is a MUST! 'Course this IS California!! But those you found will be great for quilts! Way to go and thinking outside the pants box! LOL

joobee 07-11-2012 10:06 AM

Should look great in a quilt. How do you test for fabric cotton content??

QuiltingJaguar 07-11-2012 10:30 AM

Cool I do this at the Goodwill Pound Store near by (everything sells by the pound different prices for different things like clothes $1.25 a lb or such). Great pillow cases, sheets, skirts and etc in fancy colors.

I take a piece of the fabric and lite it with a match, over the sink, and if it melts it has polyester or nylon in it, if it just burns, it is cotton...at least that is what a quilt teacher told us in a class once upon a time. It is amazing how quickly the poly will melt...scary!

Thank you Char, that makes sense. I never thought of that, but poly would melt!

earthwalker 07-11-2012 10:12 PM

Very quiltworthy! Pantsworthy NOT:)

Scakes 07-12-2012 03:18 AM

Nice fabric that will look great in a quilt. Pants - no way. LOL. I watch for clothes when I am thrift store shopping and have found some nice fabrics that way too. I also love to watch for buttons.

fayefromfla 07-12-2012 04:28 AM

I agree not good for pants but lovely in a quilt

calicojoan 07-12-2012 05:09 AM

mary705 07-12-2012 05:54 AM

I also have to say "What were they thinking?" Cool fabric for a quilt, love the colors and pattern.

debcavan 07-12-2012 05:57 AM

Oh they are aweful as pants but I can see them in a quilt

anniesews 07-12-2012 06:03 AM

Who would ever buy such an odd looking pair of pants. Guess they had second thought s about them too. :-)

Sweeterthanwine 07-12-2012 06:10 AM

Wonderful looking fabric. Isn't it amazing what you can find when you are not really looking? I am going to look at the Goodwill Store clothes a little more closely from now on. Great find.

MargeD 07-12-2012 08:48 AM

WOW, not my first choice for pants, but I'm sure it will make a beautiful quilt.

Rose Bagwell 07-12-2012 09:29 AM

I have come up with good new quality fabric at Goodwill a couple of times . The problem with me is that I can only go to those places when I go out of town as we don't have one here. Although, at our local thrift store, I have found brand new material and off good quality. Always a pleasure to find .

Quiltlady330 07-12-2012 09:37 AM

I agree with you...great fabric.
